I have searched as well as asked this same question before. But here I am again installing a brand new hard drive so I want to be able to back up everything possible from outlook so I can seemlessly migrate it with a fresh copy.

So, with all of that said, has anyone actually, physically done this themselves with 100% success? If you have can you please write up detailed steps for doing this? I would greatly appreciate it.

Of course the most important thing is to keep all of my emails in there respective folders. But I would also like to keep all of the rules and since I have Outlook, the accnt settings.

BTW this is on outlook 2003.

Thanks.

File -> import/export -> Export to a file -> Personal folder file.

or

For a few other ways.

F1 -> Backing UP

Also for rules open the rules settings window and click on options and then export rules.

Thanks.

But neither of these backs up the actual email account settings, right??

Settings are hard to backup, the first one will save all messages and the folder structure, while the second one will save the rules.

As of settings like viewing panes and what not, I just reset them up after. There may be a way to save them but I don't know.
