I know this belongs in software but I don't have the time to wait for them to respond

it's a quick answer, then please lock

can you upgrade 2000 pro to 2000 server? A VP here is about to try it, and I would rather not have to deal w/ his issues after something is fubar'd

I'd just recommend going the "clean install" route. I don't trust the upgrade process.

Why would you want to upgrade a Pro machine to Server anyways? If it's a workstation you're going to use as a server, what use are the programs and settings already on it? If you think that Server is somehow "better" as a workstation OS...well, see my response to GermyBoy.

Just do a clean install.

why upgrade? do you not have the drivers for that machine?? it will be better doing a clean install.

the only reason not to do a clean install is because you have too many apps installed, but who wants to put a lot of apps on a server machine?? isn't the idea of a server machine to keep it lean and mean and ONLY the bare necessities?
