Hey, Since I am a fairly young guy(20) i know nothing about laundry. I am planning on purchasing a dryer for my mother and do not have the slightest clue on what to look for. I know it needs to be rather large (5 people worth of laundry), and i would prefer gas although not totally opposed to an electric dryer. But other than t hat i have not the slightest clue on how to go about buying one. I checked out sears website.. they range from 250-1000$ !!! Since i am broke im looking at the 400$ price range. I need help advice and info on where to buy what type to buy and most importantly what features to look for.

Thanks for your time.

excerpt from Consumer Reports:

You have many fine choices among sensor-equipped dryers, even at modest prices. The Kenmore (Sears) 6280[2], $410, and Whirlpool LEQ8000J, $400, are CR BEST BUYS. Both performed excellently and were very quiet. When set for delicates, the Kenmore got pretty hot on maximum dry, so lower the autodry settings that could be damaged by high heat. The top-rated Kenmore (Sears) Elite 6393[2] performed excellently and has a few more features than the 6280[2]. It's also very quiet.

~~edit There was a q in brackets on the page...

good advice above, CR is a good source (you can read the paper copy in most libraries)

another simple way to handle this is just go to Sam's/Costco/BJ's and buy whatever one they sell that is the right price. chances are it will work fine for a long time

$254.99 CostCo Kirkland by Whirlpool Extra Large Capacity

Or for $15 more they'll install it for you.

Or for $25 more they'll install AND haul away your old dryer (if you have one).
