Need help accessing files on my webserver

I have a website with hostgator at the moment and I have created a directory under www called auction1 in which I have a few .jpg files stored to be used on ebay and the likes.

Now when I try to access: www.mysite.com/auction1/aucition1.jpg I am receiving a page error that says forbidden.

I have went through cpanel to see if it has permissions and they are set so everyone has read/execute access to that file.

Do I need to change other settings to be able to access these files?

I am kind of new to this so any help would be appreciated.

did you change the permissions on the directory AND the files?

If I stick an index.html file into the directory and type www.mysite/auction1 it will load the index.html correctly. Just non-html files can't be accessed.

Check your permissions again. Are the files in public html? Do you know that the domain you are using is working in the first place?

Are you set to deny hotlinking (don't know wtf it would be called in cpanel)?
