Heres the deal,

We're moving out of the apartment this friday to move back to sweden. We gave our landlady/landlord 4 weeks notice as agreed and then we agreed of time/date for them to come over and check the apartment and give us our deposit and overpaid rent back. Now she keeps pushing the date back and requesting us to give proof of paid bills. Our last deduction will be in january so have no chance in hell to give proof of paying the bills in advance.

To top it up, our contract expired in may so we dont have a valid contract. We are going to ship our cargo today and we kind of expected the deposit to pay for this. So my question is: Am I screwed?

Cliffs
Moving back to sweden
Landlady kept pushing date back to bring deposit
Land lady refuses to go out unless we bring proof of paid bills
Last deduction of said bills is in january
Contract has expired
Am I screwed?

***UPDATE***
We called the landlord and told them we will be shipping their sofas and beds (approx valued 1300 euros (which is what they owe us)) They will come by later otnight for inspection plus the cheque! I'll keep you updated and see what happens

Yes. You should have expected your landlord to do everything possible to keep your deposit. That's what landlords do.

Get statements from bills showing that you currently have a credit that covers the anticipated charges for the month.

Most any utility (I am thinking that this is what you call the bills) will be have no problems in forwarding to the proper payeee any overpayment when the account is closed out.

This will remove the excuse for the "paid bills".

Because you are leaving the country, the landlord knows that they have you over a barrel in terms of legal action to recoupthe deposit.

You may wish to look at the amount and contact an attorney on the possiblity of taknig the landlord to small claims court for you if the deposit is not returned.

The cost of the legal action can be added into the claim.

ONce you have the bills pre-paid and documented, present them to the landlord and demand an inspection date. Be prepared to allow 2-3 days to correct any items located if the place is not up to documentated standards. Set a followup date immediately is discrepencies are identified. Alert the landlord that at that time you will turn over the keys, notify the utilities and expect the deposit. They may stall and state that they need 30 days for the deposit. If so, indicte that if the deposit is not received by that date, you will initiate legal action.

You wouldn't happen to own a dog, work as a cook at a restaurant, and have a thing for beer, would you ;)?

All landlords are douche bags
I used to live in some apartments called "Westwood" and they did everything
to take fruit from the trees outside
Steps they took
-1) Didnt tell us to stop
1) Small fence around the tree (w/ gate)
2) Cut down teh tree
