I have recently bought a athlon XP 1600+ system with a DFI AD70-SC motherboard, SAMSUNG DDR 256 MB and a Geforce 3 Ti-200
I have the latest detonator XP installed.

All regular programs works fine but when starting a 3d-program using OpenGL or Direct3D (quake3, 3d studio max, 3dMark2001...) the computer hangs after about 30 seconds.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Anyone know whats wrong?

Sounds like a video card drivers problem.. try getting the newest official detonators at nvidia.com

I already have the latest official drivers from nvidia...
I've also tried the drivers provided on cd by the manufacturer (PALIT DAYTONA GEFORCE 3)

Are you overclocking? If so, try running normal, and see if the problem still happens. You could also have heat issues.

My system isn't overclocked. I've tried to switch the graphics card with another computer. The geforce 3 ran perfectly on the other computer and the new board that i tried on my system (a geforce 256) also worked perfectly. My conclusion: There's some incompability between my motherboard (DFI AD70-SC) and the geforce 3 card.

I'd suggest pulling components out one by one and see if it quits after you remove something. I was having the same problems you were on a system I built some time back. I had reused a lot of components but 3D games would lock up everytime I tried them. System would run forever...until I tried a game. Someone here suggested pulling stuff and it might help isolate the problem. Turns out that everything cleared up when I pulled an old Linksys NIC. Installed a new NIC and the machine hasn't had a problem since. Well...it has...but it was because I couldn't quit tinkering with it... :) Maybe there was some incompatible with that NIC and the new mobo that was causing the problems. Who knows.

Good luck!

Did you do a fresh install with the new mb and GF3, or did you just moved the hard drive to your new system?

I did a fresh install, I tried a configuration with no other cards beside the GF3, and it still didn't work

Have you tried changing to the windows standard vga driver, rebooting, and then reloading the GF3 driver?

As my geforce2 MX was on its way out, it would freeze while running 3d applications, too. I believe that was caused by a short circuit in the RAM.

If you find that you are OK temp wise, then I must agree with CStroman, and say it sounds like you need a new card.:( Sorry dude.
