Need headphone suggestions

I've been doing some reading on headphones as my Aiwa HP-X223 are beginning to show significant wear. I've searched for opinions and reviews for hours, and have come to the conclusion that I have no idea what's right for me. I know that even with these $30 pair from Best Buy, I am pleased with the sound quality (I guess that'd mean I'm not much of an audiophile). I use my headphones for gaming (Do not want headset however as I already have a very nice mic) and listening to music (Dave Matthews, Johnny Cash, Green Day, Bruce Springsteen etc. if knowing what sort helps). I want them to be comfortable, but this time I want a durable pair that won't wear out after a year of use (The ear pad is shredding). I would say that I don't want them to sound like crap, but I suppose since I'm pleased with these $30 Aiwa's, my idea of 'crap' is quite liberal Thanks for you advice in advance 🙂 I would like to stay under the $75 price range.
 
Sennheiser PX-200. Light and sound pretty damn good. Never cranked em on my stereo system but sound great for the Ipod. Maybe Sony MDR-V300? Light, sound somewhat decent, under 50 bucks. Or get the Sony MDR-V6 if size doesnt matter.
 
Sennheiser HD-497 $42.88 These will work great with a CD player.
But if your budget is $75 then you could get something better, maybe HD-280 Pro's $70 Might require an amp and won't get enough power from a CD player if you want that. Should be fine powered from a computer. Do you have a nice soundcard?
 
My sound card is the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. It was the best one Dell offered when I bought my PC. I'd say the max I'll go is $100, but considering I'm upgrading from a $30 Aiwa pair which I thought were great sounding I'd really only spend more if it'll affect durability/comfort significantly.
 
So I'm assuming that if I were to buy an iPod or some similar mp3 player the HD-280's wouldn't get enough power? The PX-200's seem like a good choice as do the HD-497's.
 
grado's are the sh1t for music but sh1t for gaming go for the senn hd280s and you will love them. When you get them you might need to strech them out over some books but they are great cans with good posisioning.
 
Debating right now between HD-280's and HD-497's. Price is obviously nicer on the 497's, but I'm not sure about their durability comfort according to some user reviews I've read. Sound quality I'm sure is better on the 280's, but like I said, I am by no means an audiophile and am quite pleased with the sound of these Aiwas.
 
just got sony mdrx200 for $30 at target. It's a closed-ear design and I'm blown away. Although, my previous headphone was a cheapy labtec. Regardless, the sony soundstage is so much more expansive I couldn't believe it. I also like the fact that it's single side corded.
 
I'm also looking between the SR60 by Grado Vs HD-280 From Seinheisser

Someone said The Grado's suck for games...they have rave reviews about music though....Don't hear too much about the 280's but from what I've read their good too....

Are the grado's really that bad for games if they're that good at music?
 
Well, now it appears I can go up to $85 because my dad insists that he's not comfortable in giving me "refurbs." This gives me a few more options. I didn't know you could get the Grado SR-80's for just $80. Not sure if that comfort means much for me though as they could be wearing them for 5-8 hrs. I'd say the most I'd wear them is 4 hrs, with an average wear time of 1-2 hrs. And if I have to take them off for a few minutes every hour or something so my ears can recover, that won't bother me. So they might be an option as well, but I've consistently heard they aren't as comfortable. And if anybody can convince me Sony's in this price range are better then that's fine.
 
As for comfort on the 280s, I can wear mine for about 6-8 hours and then they get a little uncomfortable.

They go on sale once in a while. I got mine for $60 new if I remember correctly.

I like them a lot and think the sound isolation is nice for not bothering people at night.

these are pretty much standard decent headphones.

if you use it mostly indoors, check out the koss KSC35. best $30 headphones. ever. (although you can easily hear outside noise)
 
if you want comfort make sure you get a circumaural design with thick pads so that your ear don't touch the headphones. The expensive ones have deep pads thats why they're so comfy. it would also be nice to have a tiny bit of ventilation because the closed-ear design gets the ears hot.

Yeah, they are the same, just a diff model name. I still have the original V6 going on over 15 years now and still kick a$$.
 
Hmm, anybody know anything about the new Sennheiser HD 485's? They're $75, but the only review I can find is CNet which says they're the best in the sub-$100 range... They also have a headphone stand which is nifty.
 
They're pretty good, but if you can afford them you might as well just take the HD515 instead or save up another $25 and get the HD555.
