Need Hard Drive access detector

One of my small hard drives is getting beaten on regularly and I need to determine what task/app is going after it at 3AM every morning.

System is behind ZoneAlarm on a cable modem.

Swap file is not on this drive and there are some bad sectors. It is the bad sector access that causes noise and alerts me to what is going on.

Any utility or tool for Win98SE that could help?

If you have no idea what might be accessing the drive, maybe you could just disconnect it, then see what pops up as an error message.

Win98 and WinMe(and possibly other windows) constantly access my hard drive when I'm not at it. I think its normal.
