I'm sorry for the repetitive posts but I didn't get any replies and I keep changing my mind about parts :)

Need help on checking whether these'll work as I don't have much experience in building computers

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.: Workstation, Aftereffects, Photoshop, Programming, minor gaming, word processing, encoding videos, watching high quality movies/anime, listening to music, messenging

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread: 1000~1500 EUROS (considering 21% tax benefits)

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.: Belgium

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.: not really

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.: I have a 24" Samsung Syncmaster 245B, and a wireless keyboard and mouse. No real inside hardware

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.: yes, but I would like an evaluation of the parts I chose and whether I missed any compatibility issues.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.: Yes, I would like to

8. WHEN do you plan to build it? : at the end of June or mid-July

Parts

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 Yorkfield 2.66GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor
Mother Board: P5K-E/WIFI-AP (is this mobo ok?)
Power Supply: 1000W TruePower Quattro (do I need this much?)
Boot HDD: Western Digital 74GB 16MB SATA150 10000RPM Raptor (no issues with 10k RPM?)
Storage HDD: Western Digital 1000GB (1TB) 16MB SATA300 7200RPM WD10EACS
PC Case: http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=81820
CPU Cooler: Zalman Cnps 9700-NT AMD & Intel (is this a good cooler?)
GPU: ASUS EN9800GTX/HTDP/512M GeForce 9800 GTX(G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
DVD-RW: Samsung SH-S203D/bebe Zwart S-ATA 20X DVD-RW (same model except black)
Floppy: NEC Floppy Black
RAM: Corsair Twinx DDR2 4096MB PC6400 XMS2 (2X2048MB)

OR

I could go for the

Asus P5E3 Deluxe/wifi-AP DDR3 Socket 775 Intel® X38

for the mobo and

OCZ OCZ3G13332GK 2048MB KIT (2X1024MB) 1333MHZ DDR3 Gold Edition Dual

for RAM

Questions:
- Would the x84 version of XP still work with the 4GB of RAM plugged in although it may not recognize all of it?
- Do x84 versions of linux support 4GB of RAM?
- Is the motherboard a good choice?

All my possible parts are from here:
PSU: http://www.tones.be/shop_producten.php?cat=49030
Mother Boards: http://www.tones.be/shop_producten.php?cat=300
Processors: http://www.tones.be/shop_producten.php?cat=390
HDDs: http://www.tones.be/shop_producten.php?cat=240
GPUs: http://www.tones.be/shop_producten.php?cat=230
Cooling: http://www.tones.be/shop_producten.php?cat=39080

I can buy the cheaper parts at another shop (like the cooler so I can get an Arctic Freezer 7 from somewhere else)

I understand that you're in Belgium, but your other thread appeared during what are normal work/school hours in the United States. Sometimes people need more than a few hours for a fair chance to respond to a thread. If you feel you haven't received the replies you'd like, then bump your thread after a day rather than creating a new one. Just a piece of advice.

I think you're overspending on the video card, and both major graphics manufacturers are releasing new products this month before you build. I wouldn't make a firm decision on a graphics card yet. You'll be underwhelmed by a 74GB Raptor - new 7200RPM drives can nearly equal and in some cases surpass the much older drive. The Zalman heatsinks are also relatively old tech and the designs haven't been updated to keep up with the market. There are better choices for the money.

You don't need anywhere near 1000W, and something like the Antec Earthwatts 500W should be more than enough depending on your choice of video card.

My recommendation though, is that you spend the next two to three weeks reading as much as you can before you build, and then post your thread again at the end of June when you are finally ready to purchase. Prices and technology change too quickly in the computer industry for it to be productive to nail down a build a month in advance.
