I'm close to the end of my build design and I have yet to figure out what memory to buy.

The CPU will be an E8400 and the motherboard the P5Q-E from ASUS P48.

I will likely overclock this out of the gate, so I need something that isn't flaky and will work with this board. DDR2. probably 4GB.

any thoughts?

I started with Corsair 4gb (2gb x 2) ddr21066. I know they have a good reputation but the memory was DOA and an RMA through Corsair would have taken 3 weeks. They wouldn't even initially issue the RMA unless I spent hours testing the ram on another machine and running memtest.

Anyway, I returned that memory and ordered directly from Mushkin. They were great on the phone, shipped the same day and the memory works as rated with no problems at all.

I know you can get DOA components from anyone but I was impressed with Mushkin.

Wow, so many differnt opinions. I thought for sure there would be one best bet...I guess not.

So I have 2 for mushkin, 1 corsaire, 1 not corsaire, a g.skill and an OCZ.

Any other bets?

by the way, thanks for all the input everyone!

Nah, it's tough to nail down a "best," especially with prices on different models rising and falling weekly due to sales and such.

If I were you I would get the G.Skill you'd find by following n7's DDR2-1000 link:

I say that because it's the probably the least expensive good quality RAM that has the headroom you'll be looking for. Compatibility shouldn't be an issue. That's not to say that any of the other recommendations are bad, just that this is what I'd buy.
