Need good gaming mouse compatible with Win7 64 bit

Right now I have a Logitech G5 mouse that has been aggravating me more and more lately because it's like its set to a low resolution. When I move the mouse horizontally, it is not smooth movement, but choppy, like it is snapping to a low resolution grid line or something. It's not choppy as in slow... its like its going over and up, over and up, over and up really quickly. It should go in a completely smooth line which ever angle I move it. SetPoint driver's seem to do nothing and I've messed with the settings every possible way with and without the SetPoint drivers installed.

The last time I had this mouse working smoothly was in Vista.

Someone please recommend a good gaming mouse that functions properly in a Windows 7 64 bit environment. Then I'm off to the fs/ft forums.

I like my microsoft sidewinder mouse and it works fine in win7 64 bit. I mostly like it because it fits my hand nicely though as that's my #1 requirement so I could see others not liking it.

Any other suggestions? I heard the Razer Salmosa is good, but not sure if it works in Win7 64.

I doubt it's endemic to the mouse. This sound like either your mouse has worn out, or your settings are corrupt.

I just bought a Logitech G500 to replace my MX518 and I like it a lot. I am using it in Windows 7 x64 and everything works flawlessly. The only thing I do not like so much is the pattern on the top of the mouse, it just doesn't look that good in my opnion. But the functionality of the mouse is great. Customizable buttons, customizable weight, high dpi, and a good size.

Its neither. My mouse is in excellent condition... unless something inside randomly broke..but why would it still function? It functions, just not very smoothly. I have tried different settings and everything and I know what I'm doing... I have changed the X/Y resolution settings in the mouse's gaming options but it seems to do nothing. Default was 2000 by 2000 with a 1000 report rate. I've turned off my SetPoint drivers and even uninstalled them and that seems to help a little, but the mouse still isnt 100% smooth as it should be.

Seriously, I like this mouse a lot. Works with Win7 X64. Its slightly bigger so I recommend this mouse for people with large palms.

This is a common problem with Logitech G5's. Their is a problem where they randomly reset your DPI settings, and it almost seems like windows loses the USB connection to the mouse and that's when the settings change. There are numerous threads on the logitech forums.

This USB bug also messes up my Razer Arctosa keyboard. It disappears for a second and when it comes back my escape key no longer works.

Their are newer logitech drivers that have made the problem occur less, but it hasn't been fixed entirely.

Thinking of picking up a G9x to replace my g5.

I've got my Logitech MX518 mouse still kicking, it's quite a few years old and still holds up well. I'm running with 64bit 7 without a hitch.

I was having problems with SetPoint drivers on my G5 in Win7/64 up until the most recent update, been good for me since then.

Check that the "eye" housing doesn't have any hairs or lint in it. Make sure you unplug it first before staring straight into it. If possible, test on another computer - if the problems are duplicated then try an RMA, logitech is usually pretty good about that.

Even my old Intellimouse optical and MX518 work perfectly in Windows 7 x64. Something is wrong with your mouse. Try it on another computer to be sure and maybe Logitech can replace it.

I had the G5 before and I liked the Deathadder better. More comfortable and much better wheel, even though it didn't have side-scroll.

Call up Logitech Tech Support and see what they can do. If you're lucky they'll send you a G9 or G500.

I chose a MX518 over a G500, I still prefer optical to laser. Laser is too powerful and still tracks even when you lift up the mouse off the surface a decent amount which isn't good.

It's more thank likely not something wrong with his mouse because so many others have the same exact problems in win 7 64bit with the g5.

Nope. My MX518 and G5 v1 act the same way in 7, yet are very smooth in XP (only used them in Xp, 7, and Xorg--no Vista). I manage OK, but I would prefer some interpolated smoothness. The 'roughness' seems to be there, with or without OS acceleration, too (the 'Mark C' mouse fix was my last hope of dealing with it, before I gave up and decided to just live with it).

I'll be in a game and my mouse will stop working and I'll even hear the sound that Windows makes when it's unplugged/plugged. This only just started happening about a month or so ago and I've been running 7 x64 for almost a year now. Think it's just the mouse? (MX518)

That was a big problem with G7s. Logitech wouldn't even send me a new one...


I purchased a Razer Naga and never looked back. It fits perfectly in my hand and has 17 buttons. Pretty nice.
