while in the parts shops, there is a circle with a flame in the middle of it and a x1 number beside it. around the circle it appears to be broken up into sections of bars. is there a significance to this??

What m21s said.

If you change out parts, change color, your heat goes down and you will get less cops when you are riding.

Is there any other way to get the heat level down besides changing parts?

Also, is there a way to go back to a previous saved game? Or take a current saved game file now in one of the folders and then when I progress further, paste the previous save file to reload it?
(I couldn't get the pink slip on my first blacklist.)

And BTW, it was funny how my stock IS300 blew away some guy that was #15 on the blacklist who dropped a lot of money on his car.

Yes, I do it all the time for the same reason. I copy the save games to another folder, try beating a blacklist driver and keep going for the pink slips, if I dont get the slips, I copy the files back and keep trying until I do.

I did that all the way through the game too. The enemy cars you win are way better than the stock ones and often contain upgrades that you don't get access to until much later.

I don't think I ever beat the challenge races though. I got stuck on the one where you drive a minivan and eventually gave up. Maybe I should try it again.

The flame number is the level of police that will come after you in a chase. I compare it to the star level in the Grand Theft Auto games. Basically in NFSMW, the chases will get more difficult the higher the rating and the more cars will come after you. The highest heat level(level 5?) is almost impossible to outrun.

You need to do it a few times near the end to win the game. It's actually a good thing to be at level 5 in some ways though, since you rack up bounty extremely fast (much more than level 4) and there is never any shortage of cops, roadblocks and so on for the milestones. I found it harder to get some of those things on the lower heat levels, since you need to drive around for a long time to find enough of them.

I think I found the save file.

Is it in the mydocuments folder?

Also, do you guys ever upgrade the ride you get for free?

What are these challenges? Are they in the career mode?

Yes, that is it.

I only did it once or twice. By the time a good upgrade gets unlocked, you have often scored a competitor's car that already has it.

They're a separate set of races, sort of like a secondary campaign. It has been a while since I played the game, but I think there is a menu option for them somewhere.

Use a different car and the heat level of the first one will go down in time.
