Im going to buy one of the 2 and dont know which will be better, keep in mind, faster is going to be better but its for my mom and she really doesnt need a lot of capacity or speed so which should I get?

1. Maxtor 6.5gb, ATA/66, 5400rpm, 2mb buffer $45 shipped

2. IBM 10.1gb, ATA/33, 7200rpm, 512kb buffer $55 shipped

???

Thanks in advance

i would go for the ibm, bigger and faster (wont max out the ata33 interface, espically since its probably an older drive)

<< faster is going to be better >>

you'll want the ibm then as it's almost certain it has a quicker seek time than the maxtor!

Jiggz, so which one???

Im just wondering, the IBM has a faster RPM but is only ATA33 and 512k compared to the 5400 with ATA66 and 2mb cache?

Anymore?

I guess I will go with the IBM

I love IBM's. I love mine. I love their quitness and 7200 RPM's, and their amazing data tranfer.

But I would not want to deal with my mom if her HD died and she lost everything.

For her I would find a different drive. Shop around, you can get better hard drives that that maxtor. I have seen 20 gig 7200 RPM maxtors for around 60ish.
