I need some expert opinion.

I want to build a watercooling system, yes I?m sick of high fan noises. I have a bigtower In-win q500 so I have enough room for this. I don?t want to have a bucket as a water container. My plan is to have at least 0,5 l of water in the cooling system.

This is what I?m going to use:

1. 50w peltier
2. 2 water blocks
3. 1 alpha ho7 using a 120mm fan for cooling down the peltier.
4. Rubber tubes.

The largest water block will be mounted on the backside on my tower. Above my 300w psu. This water block will be used for cooling down the water before it will be sent to the water block that is mounted on my athlon core.

What I?m worried about is the peltier. Will it be strong enough to cool down the water so my cpu temp wont be anyhigher then 35c. As now I?m using my alpha ho7 with a 120mm fan instead of the two noisy fans that come with the alpha. My cpu temp is now 52c at max when room temp is 23c. My athlon 700core is running at 910mhz with 1,95v. I?m not really looking to push my athlon much higher but rather get rid of my noisy blowhole system.

Be carefull where you buy your waterblock.I got the copper one
you see from a very well known company. It is a piece of $hit,
it leaked, yes leaked.Look at the finish,i think they make these with a belt sander and a drill press! So What did i do?I machined my own water blocks and cold plates, the future one's will be made out of copper. Results:with a 72 watt peltier;p3 700@1120,temp -20c according
to my bios.I put a couple of pics with the block i bought and the one i made, imade the block out of aluminum.

get yourself a small radiator like the one i have.this is a tranny
cooler i'me using.i put 2 80mm fans that blow air through it,works
great.

Well I'm going to build the waterblocks on my own... And I rather use peltier then radiator. but I could use both I guess.

I would say if your gunna be using a 120mm fan then just get a small radiator (be cooling or swiftech) and a Eheim inline pump.
Using a 50w pelt isn't going to cool the water enough, it probably won't even get it very much below ambiant temps

Yes.. but my goal is not to go to much under ambiant temp. But I'm also considering getting a radiator to put in the front of my case. and use 80mm low noice fan. I want my system to stay stedy at not more then 35c at least but it would be better if I could get it down to 20-25c.

DeViSoR, a radiator is needed to cool down your water, because it has much more surface area than a water block. You'll also need a pump to circulate the water.

A peltier cannot take over the job of a radiator, because you simply can't dump a peltier into water and cool it down. First, because the wires may not be insulated totally, and second, all the cooling the peltier will provide will be countered by all the heat that the peltier will provide (a peltier takes current and makes one side real cold, and the other side real hot, basically).

DeViSoR, you are wasting! If you do not plan to CPU drop temps below ambient, then you DO NOT NEED a peltier. Just put the waterblock bare to the core (with thermal grease), and use a radiator to cool the water and problem solved. Peltiers used this way are much, much more troublesome than radiators, because you'll have to worry about condensation (the side of the waterblock that touches the peltier will turn cold enough before the other side's heat can reach it). Plus, your power supply might not have enough power to supply to your peltier, possibly even causing the peltier to not get powered up, making the point of it useless.

I have peltier/copper water block setup currently running. I got my block from a newer company at http://www.dangerden.com . I selected that block because of the design (lots of surface area) NOT DRILLED! No leaks either. My 0.02.

Yucky he he.. A waterpump is in my plan just forgott to mention it .

Well as most of you seems to say that a radiator is better then peltier cooling I'll go for it .

So this is my plan for now. Water pump ----- >little water resorviar (inside the case) ---> radiator (front of the case) ---> small resorviar outside the box as in the draving that cool the water even more ----> waterblock on cpu -----> starting point.

thx for all tip.. I'll wait for your drawing Yucky...

Ok I have thought trough my water-cooling system. As most of you think that a radiator will cool much better then a pelter I'm adding one. As the radiator really cool the water much to almost ambient temp I would think that the peltier will help the water to become under ambient temp. And maybe get the water under 15c (I hope).

If you bother to check my new drawing here it is...

But I'm not sure that how much water I should have in the water container. It depends on what I can store in my case.
And Yucky I have sent a request to you about icq!

Oh and I might mention that the waterblocks will not be bought but "home made" as I know someone who know how to make stuff like that.

Remove the secondary waterblock with the heatsink and peltier. I don't think it'll help at all.

A better way to cool down the water would be to fit another fan on the radiator.

BTW, it's a good idea to keep the watertank OUTSIDE the case. What if you or your friend bangs the case real nice and hard?

HUH. watertank outside the case.. NOPE bad idia I think. I move my comp a lot to lan parties.. so I dont want that.. and I dont think it will be a problem that someone "bang" into my case as the watertank will be sealed.
