Within the next two months I want to build at least one computer with dual CPU's for DC. But I never once touched a dual CPU machine... even with a ten foot pole.
I am undecided as to go the P4 route, MP's. Though I will most likely go with the P4's. I kinda want it to be low priced, no need for SCSI but LAN would be a nice touch. And able to OC via FSB. Is there and boards either route that fit the discription?

Thanks in advance.

The p4 dual boards are about $500-600, and the 2.4 xeons are maybe $240, so that's a grand right there. Then there's memory... I would check out the amd dual boards. They start at less than $250, and quite often you can get away with using plain old xp's on the board. I would go with the old palimino cores. The newer thorougbreds may not work, and offer no gain in speed (clock for clock). There should still be plenty around. Newegg sometimes offers refurbished dual amd boards for about $150.

Only Xeons for the dual setup.

Iwill DPL533 is the cheapest 7505 chipset MB but it doesn't have oc capability.

AthlonXP + modded or AthlonMP are a much much much much much much much much much much much better value than those over priced Xeons. Iwill, MSI, and especially Tyan all make great Dual boards!

Personally I want to avoid Tyan. I see no need to be locked in needing a special power supply that won't work on other motherboards or visa versa.

Okay, looks like I will go the AMD route. Though I must say I am cringing on the idea because so far all AMD setups I have are slow and/or unstable. I hope they have the quirks fixed out in the dual mobo's.

MSI you say? I never tried their boards. How are they? I have always been tempted to get their boards. But so far I have been loyal to Abit/Intel/Soyo.

Better yet, does anybody know if the Biostar P4TDQ mobo supports OC'ing? Heck for the price of a dually setup I can get two of these with 256MB PC2100+ memory and a P4 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz and still cost less than a dually mobo with CPU's but w/o memory.

If it does not support OC'ing, what is the lowest priced INTEL chipset motherboard I can find for P4 support?

That is only true of the Tyan Thunder series. The Tiger series uses a standard powersupply.

That is correct. My Tyan Tiger MP (S2460) motherboard uses a standard power supply (Antec PP412X) and is extremely stable.
