Here's a set of directions that mentions the 405:
When leaving the airport follow the signs to Century Blvd. Take Century Blvd. to the 405 Fwy. north. Then take the 10 Fwy. east and exit at Grand Avenue (approximately 9 miles from the 405 Fwy.). Turn left on Olive Street. Turn left on Pico Blvd. and continue straight to the Convention Center.

North from where? You may be better off getting on the Harbor Freeway northbound, depending on how far south of downtown, you are.

If you do take the 405, go north to the Santa Monica Freeway (10), west, to the Harbor Freeway, north. Immediately look for freeway signs indicating the Convention Center.

Argh...I want to go to the LA Auto Show...too bad I'm 1200 miles away...

The both times I went, we parked at the parking structure shown on this page.

The parking was cheap and they had shuttles going to the convention center. If there's no shuttles during the time you get there, it's still a short walk to the center.

Directions to LA Auto Show

Good luck man. I went on Saturday last year and it was a madhouse. I'm planning on going on Wednesday to beat some of the crowd this year.
