Need desperate help...

I am truely stumped on this one.

The computer boots up just fine, passes the Post and past all the BIOS, but as soon as it starts to access the hardrive to load Windows, the computer just reboots itself. It doesnt even get to the Windows splash screen.

Of course, the next time the computer goes through the motion, it gives you the option of going into Safe Mode and it will go into Safe Mode just fine. But when I reboot the machine again, it does the exact same thing.

What is going on here?

When a computer reboots, I always think it has to do with heat, but that's definitely not the case since it happens at the same spot.

I traded the power supply out for a brand new Antec 400-watt off Newegg, tried different Corsair 512Mb DDR400 memory, even pulled the AGP card out of there and put in a PCI video card, but nothing stops this reboot from happening.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated! I dont know what else to do or try to fix this.

Windows XP Pro SP2

Asus K8V-X Mobo
AMD Sempron 3000 Proc
Corsair 512MB DDR400 Mem
Antec 400-Watt Power

Boot from the WinXP CD and try a repair install. It sounds like one or more of the files Windows is trying to load is f'ed up.

I saw that happeniong because of a bad motherboard, some subsystem went nuts and responded aggressively to Win trying to set it up - I think it was the network, I'm not sure.
