It doesnt need to be N, I dont think anyone who will be using it has N, and honestly most stuff will be wired..the wireless will be just an added benefit for anyone who comes over.

Whats the best cheapest router and what is the best to flash the routers with now?

i like that the asus has built in print server as well...

So far thats the one..but lets see if anyone else has anything to add. I have the cisco (WRT110) at my place in cali but dont need it so much here..unless I can get a good price and its recommended.
 
I'd go to the WRT and Tomato firmware sites and see which routers people there are currently touting.

That being said, I have that Asus and that Buffalo (probably an earlier revision) running DDWRT and I have been very happy with them.
