the Tuniq tower cost ~$50 ? At that price, I would seriously consider buying a low end C2D CPU like the E2140 (~$70), which includes a cooler, and overclock it. You'll probably end up with a faster and cooler running system. The Intel stock cooler is more than adequate for OCing up to 3GHz and it is quiet under load too.

To be totally honest given cooler masters history I'd say buy now and buy the tuniq. The coolermaster will probably perform almost identically but be louder or be quieter and cool marginally worse and be at least $10 more.
 
I am also looking to upgrade my Q6600's stock cooler and was wondering if anyone could tell me if the Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme is worth buying right away or to wait for the release of arctic cooling's new heatsink- Arctic Cooling new heatsink? I plan on purchasing a new yorkfield processor so I'll be waiting on that anyways.

That depends on two major things. Are you going to be overclocking? Are you comfortable lapping a heatsink?

The waiting game is not really one to be played with computers. you'll always get a better deal if you wait a couple months, if you find what you want and it's priced within your range then just pull the trigger. If there is something specific you're already waiting for, might as well hold off on the whole kit-n-caboodle and see if you get lucky.
 
I have no exp with lapping but understand its theory, my plan is to OC my Q6600 as I wait for the release of the new quads, but don't feel comfortable using stock HS. Also to mention price is really to big of a factor and I have come to realize if you going to cheap out on parts its not worth building if you want a top pc.

Thats why I've adopted the idea of buying every other generation and upgrading in stages. Unfortunately that keeps getting harder.

The CPU in your link is a Pentium D. It is the CPU from the previous generation (90nm). It runs HOT, consume more power and much slower than the current generation of Intel Core 2 Duo CPU (65nm and soon to be released 45nm).

I'm glad I saw this topic. I just built a new PC with the Q6600 as a CPU. Running the stock heatsink and fan, I can get it to around 2.8-3.0ghz but the system hard locks after about 10 minutes of use. I saw that Tuniq Tower and was thinking of that. Would that heatsink allow me to comfortably OC my Q6600 to the 3.0-3.2Ghz range? That is about where I'd like it.

Would the Tuniq probably be my best heatsink option or is there something even better?

Finally, I notice when looking at these heatsinks online, a lot of them come with their own tube of thermal paste. I have artic silver 5 so is it best to use that, or use the stuff that comes with the heatsinks? Thanks in advance!

ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler will easily do the job for half the price of the Tuniq tower. Read the Newegg's customer reviews and you'll see why people rave over this cooler.

If the thermal paste is pre-applied on the base of the cooler already then just use that; otherwise use the arctic silver 5 you have.
