need compactflash help!! card error, I need to get files off of it!

I'm using a Kingston 2GB Elite Pro CF card in my Canon Powershot G3 camera. Today I was going to take more pictures. I turn on the camera, get a black screen on the LCD with something to the tune of "EQ0" being displayed, then the camera shuts off. I re-insert the card, and it tells me there are no files on it. WinXP won't even recognize the CF card; the card reader keeps searching for some "autoplay" on it. I need help with 2 things:

1) How to format the card if Windows doesn't really recognize it (my camera does .. partially .. now it says "CF card error")
2) How to get my files off there .. they are very important to me.

Can someone help please??
