Hi,

I am currently working on this routine for my weight lifting. I am just a newbie in this thing and would like your expert opinion on this ?

How does the schedule that I put together seems to you ?

http://errsolutions.com/temp/exercise.htm

BTW, before I start I do make sure I stretch a LOT and do 5-10 minutes of cardio warmup.

Thanks for any input !

Its alot of exercises per muscle group. You might want to cut back if you are just starting, and then gradually add some.

Well, I've worked out for 8 months now and I am just starting to get a hang on what to do. I am trying to do 4 stations / body part so that comes out to 8 stations / day.

I am doing 3 sets per station and 8-10 reps / set.

btw, I am not doing the optional. What I meant was I rotate between the regular exercise and optional exercise so that I am not bored.

Naw, that's fine if you can only go to the gym 3 days a week... i had a VERY similar schedule for my first 5 years.

most people say limit your time to 1 hour and do 2-3 exercises (at most) per body part.

Not really... he's only doing 4-5 exercises per bodypart.

What my schedule was like though, was

DAY1: Chest, Triceps
DAY2: Back, Shouders, Biceps, forearms
DAY3: Legs

That's because when you do Chest, you're stressing the triceps, so it's more natural to move onto triceps to finish the workouts.
And for back, you're hitting the biceps and forearms as well, so might as well work them fully on those days.

2-3 exercises at most?! Not for me, that would be a tease... even if i do them all to failure.

No, HIT is the opposite of that. You do many exercises, but single sets.

holy crap man, what are u doing trying to be like arnold, yeah cut back on some of those, unless u are jumpstarting a football career that program is insane, i have been lifting everyday for a while, and i don;t even do that many execrises.
Key rules,
1. Stretch (which u have done or at least listed)
2. Drink lots of water
3. if u want nice gaines, take creatine before and protein after u workout and u will be golden

Good luck

Well, the thing I don't like about that is, whichever you do second, you aren't getting a full direct workout for those muscles. For instance, if you do chest first, you won't have as much strength for tricep exercises, and if you do back first, you don't have as much strength for biceps, etc....I have chest grouped with biceps, shoulders grouped with triceps, back is separate...ah I posted it before...www.deeko.net/workout.doc

Is 8 stations / day, 2 body parts / day really too much ?

I am not trying to be Arnold or something :), at this stage I just want to tone my muscle a little and make my body firmer. I am taking one step at a time.

I do make sure that I stretch a LOT, drink lots of water and do warm ups.

Thanks for all the input so far !

If you need to workout over 2 hours a day, you're not workingout hard enough. You can workout long, or you can workout hard, but you can't do both in a single workout. Unless you're on anabolics your workout volume will produce opposite results and throw you into overtraining mode, where you will find it next to impossible to gain muscle.

Depends on your body type - some respond better that way. If you have a hard time adding muscle you're better off splitting it the way you have it
