looking for something fairly simple that supports all the basics like msn, aim, yahoo, icq. Really not much more than that, the less bloat the better. I don't mind paying for a good product either.

I have been using trillian pro for a very long time but it is just bloated and way too much for what I need, not to mention falling apart because 3.0 seems to have trouble logging in to msn at all now and aim gives me constant warning messages my client is outdated and will be cut off soon. Tried astra and it just wiped out everything, there didn't seem to be an upgrade path from 3.0 pro and it wiped out all my accounts and contacts from 3.0.

Thinking about Miranda, anyone using it?

Go with Miranda a simple and leightweight as it gets. loads in 0 seconds on a Athlon XP 3200 too, windows pop up clean you can use tabs but need plugin for that. good luck,

Try IM+. Supports MSN, Yahoo!, Google Talk, AIM, MySpace, Jabber, ICQ, Facebook, Skype and Twitter.

Unless I am missing something I don't see a windows version, mobile only? I'm using ebuddy on the ipod which just works great but I will remember this if I have trouble with it.

Never heard of pidgin or digsby. I skimmed their features but I didn't see a spell checker on either, do any of these have one? That's about the only big feature I could really use.

digsby, why do people want IM that look like they are from 1995?
Agreed, but if you really want a minimalist and/or open source IM client, the pidgin is better. Digsby just looks soooo much better and it works great. I've run pidgin, disgby, and trillian, and digsby was the one I stuck with.
