OK, so I have been a lifelong runner. Recently I have been diagnosed with chronic shin splits. I had an MRI yesterday to see if I have a stress fracture but basically I will have to take off 4-6 months.

I really don't like the gym or weight lifting. According to my doc, even stationary/recumbant bikes, eliptical, and stair climbers are out.

I now have a gym membership but no pool access. At Golds, there is a circuit setup but wanted to know if there was a good link to a program for this. My only interest is cardio but I obviously will be looking at strengthening my upper body for the first time. I emphasize that I DO NOT want muscles or any bulk whatsoever.

You could start up a circuit routine with free weights. I used to do a good one of dumbell press, shoulder press, lunges, squats, triceps, and biceps. If you do like 15 reps of each and keep going for 15 minutes it gets your heartrate going. And the squats and lunges should have no impact on your shins. And I'm not talking about squats with like 100's of pounds, I'm talking about squats with like 10 lb weights in each hand. I also used to do another consisting of only my body weight.

Basically you don't need to start "pumping iron" just so long as you keep constantly moving. Also swimming would also be a great alternative to running. Just transfer your running routine into the pool.
