Ok I need help choosing a new car. I have 6k to spend. I'm 17 with a clean driving history. I really don't want the get a beater speech because I have been driving a beater and its time for something nice. I am looking for something sporty and fairly rare. I have narrowed my choices down to a toyota supra, toyots celica(not really that rare though...), porsche 944, mazda rx7 and nissan300zx. Now the rx7 and 300zx are kinda low on my list because I can't find a local mechanic to repair an rx7, and 300zx's are a bit out of my price range. I need a car with good handeling and relativly good pickup. What do you guys reccomend.

6K can get you a decent car, good luck finding a 300Z or an RX7 in good shape for that much, I'd say look for a nice Celica, maybe an All-Trac can be had that much?

i've heard good things about the rx7

but honestly none of these are good choices for a 17 year old with a 6k budget. insurance is expensive with those kinda cars. more expensive if you turn into a ricer and started racing other ricers, and get into accidents, speeding tickets, then your insurance takes a major hike.

Ok first off I will not own a honda. Second I already drive an audi so my insurance can't go much higher ( I also got some price quotes and my insurance will not be going up much even if I get a porsche.) I was actually leaning towards a porsche because since I already drive and audi I figured it would be right up my alley. And yes the 300zx and rx7 are kinda long shots because I can't find any decent ones for 6k. That and many mechanics wont repair rotary engines.

Yes I consider my audi a beater. it is and 89 with over 200,000 miles and quite a few visual defects. The car runs great but the paint is oxidizing is sever areas, leather has tears and is fading, roof carpeting is falling down and stained, dashboard gauges sometimes don't work properly, small amounts of rust... there are quite a few other things too...

'76 AMC Pacer. Plenty nice and you may end up with a few bucks in your pocket afterwards.

Seriously.. What's wrong with a Honda? IMO, that's probably your best bet for the price range. I have a close friend that just let a '91 Dodge Stealth (Mitsu 3000 in disquise) R/T TT go for about that price and even though it was well kept, I would've been very afraid of that car. Same goes for an older RX-7. The 300ZX or older Toyota Supra or Celica are a good bet though.

The 944 is not a bad car, it's just not the most reliable car you will find. I guess it all depends what you want. Do you want a car that you can drive and enjoy or do you want a car that will nickle and dime you to death and be in the shop all of the time?

Beware to get sexually abused on repair bills for any of those cars - especially the RX7 and the Porsche 944. If you have to do a major repair on that porsche just give up on life because that would be the easier option.
