Need budget PSU to power 6600GT

I need a new PSU so that I can upgrade my graphics to a 6600GT AGP. I have a p4 2.4c, 2x512MB pc3200 ram, 1 hd, 2 cd drives and a disk drive, and a card reader. I'd like to get a budget psu that will keep this system stable for a long time. I'm not too worried about future-proffing though, as my next upgrade will probably be a new computer. I'd really like to get this under $60 shipped, as I originally planned on spending ~$50.

Would the Enermax Noisetaker 370w work well for me? It's only $51 shipped from newegg. It has the dual-12v rails, so I'm a little concerned that 14a and 13a won't be enough. I've heard good things about the Enermax 350w with the 26a 12v rail, but am having trouble finding that one (at a good price).

any quality psu should work fine. hell, a shuttle xpc's 240W psu can handle the strain of the 6800gt.

I'm also in the process of researching regarding the appropriate PSU for my present and future (AMD64 3000) need.

All I can share meanwhile is what PSU you shoudn't buy nor even consider.

Based on actual sad experience; stay away from the Powmax Demon 580W. What a 'hellish' experience. Great looks and for about less than $40 I thought it was a great buy. Would have been if only it didn't die so quickly.

Gee never knew a PSU that died so young. Never even had the chance to see its second month of life.

As for the 'useless' one year manufacturers warranty. Like mentioned USELESS.

I emailed powmax directly about a month ago. I explained to them my particular circumstances. I'm here in the Philippines and bought the unit thru my purchasing agent in CA. Which, based on my instruction bought the unit from 3Btech.net.

I modified my unit by replacing the fan grills (per my research prior to purchase, this was advisable because the original fan grills hindered good air flow and caused this model to overheat). For aesthetics and case modding purposes I sleeved the unsleeved wires. Maybe had I done this incorrectly then the unit should have failed or maybe blown-up during initial use.

How did Powmax response.

They simply ignore me. After all I'm just one of so many purchasers.

My $40 is just a drop in the in the bucket for them. Well for me here in Manila that $40 x 53.

Thanks for the caution Mysteryozo. I've seen powmax non-recommended in a few threads now.

waffles, the XClio 450w certainly looks nice. I just did some searching and it's getting mostly positive reviews here. It has more power on the 12v rails than the Enermax and it looks like it'd be quiet with that one big fan (can anyone with this psu comment on that?). But it's also ~10$ more and doesn't have the repuation of Enermax.

Would someone please tell me if my system will even use the second rail on a dual-12v psu? My board has AGP, not PCI-Ex: ASUS P4SD-LA

Yeah man, I love Seasonic. But isn't 300w pushing it? The 350w is $68 shipped, which is going over my limit.

This 350w Enermax will be plenty for you. I had the same PSU power a 2.8 prescott @3.5ghz, with dual raptors and a 6800GT, and it's now powering a 3.06ghz Northwood @3.45ghz with a 6600.

Skip a few lunches and get something with a bit more juice. Your waistline will thank you and your next upgrade will be cheaper. Buy a Fortron. About the cheapest for a serious high power PS.

You just might want to do SLI, dual core and Raid 0+1 on your next incarnation. And why not? CPU memory VC HD all drop in price, but PS are about the same,
