I purchased a contour camera (www.contour.com) to mount to my helmet when I ski. I have a few hours of footage from recent ski trips that I would like to condense into a compilation video for my buddies and I. Anybody recommend a decent free editor? The files created by the camera are in HD quality and with the extension .mov. Thanks

Your computer already comes with one. Windows Movie Maker for Windows, iMovie for Mac.

If you want to get technical, Lightworks is a professional grade editor that's free. It's very powerful but I find it difficult to edit with. Has a weird way of making timeline edits that flies in the face of the standard way set by Avid, Premiere Pro, and Final Cut.

Tried Windows Movie Maker and it cannot open .mov files. I'm downloading LightWorks now and will see how that goes. I've never edited video before so lets see if I can catch on.

Have been using Camtasia for past few months - 400+ videos.
Just started using AVS Video Editor recently. Seems to be doing a better job with some videos that Camtasia doesn't play nice with.
Going to give a try with Lightworks to see how that goes.

Which Windows version? XP and Vista Movie Makers should open .mov if you have the correct codecs installed (quicktime, or ffdshow, or a codec pack like klite or cccp). Movie Maker (Live, version 6 or the repackaged Vista version) should work fine on Windows 7 without needing extra codecs installed.

also, wrong forum.
