Well, gosh, of those I know (and like!) only Nightwish.

The others are similar?

(FWIW, I hear 'Lacuna Coil' compared to Nightwish a lot - probably just because it's a metal band with a female lead. And, obviously, 'Evanescence' gets compared to them, although Amy has NOTHING on Tarja for vocal range.)

Anywhere you can hear any of these songs?

I've heard 'Within Temptation's "Gatekeeper" and it kicked ass (it had been inappropriated attributed to Nightwish on one of the filesharing networks)...but can't find any of their albums in any of our local shops. I mean, really, NONE of them. (No surprise, I had to get almost all the Nightwish albums from Amazon, too).

Still...

dude, you just listed every metal/goth band with a female vocalist except Lacuna Coil!

Cradle of Filth's song "Nymphetamine Overdose" features the girl from Theatre of Tragedy, and is the only CoF song I like. Ironically enough, it's now one of my favorite songs. I HIGHLY recommend it. It makes me wonder who wrote it because it's so completely different from CoF's usual fare. It's actually deep and the lyrics are amazingly well-written.

Solos? Say what, now?

Wife likes the band well enough, but she really prefers Tarya on her own - is this just a single, or a whole album yet? (I know she's talked about doing solo stuff on the side FOREVER)

Epica .... This band is Awesome IMO. It sounds a lot like Nightwish, though a bit mellower.

The Gathering ... They aren't really to much of a metal/goth band these days, but they started off as death metal and Anneke is an awesome singer.

Leaves Eyes ... This is a pretty new act, they sound good ... IMO better than Theatre of Tragedy but very similar style

Em Simfonia ... The first CD was a side project with members of Novembers Doom, Broken Hope, and some other people. It had same great female vocals, their second CD has a different lineup but is still worth listening to.

Incubus Succubus ... This is a good goth rock act. The singing is not nearly as exciting as Tarja in Nightwish, but its still good.

Odes Of Ecstasy .... This is another good metal-opera style band with great female vocals.

Xandria ... This is a good goth act, the singer sorta reminds me of Within temptation with a bit more energy.

As others have said, Lacuna coil rocks. I VERY highly recommend them.

You may also want to check out Crisis and recent
If you are into females doing death metal, I also recommend ordering this compilation CD "Awakening: Females In Extreme Music"

I am moostly into death, doom, and black metal, however, I probably have about 50 or so CDs worth of thiis style of music. If you like my suggestions, I can give many more.
