So here is another YAGT....

Me and my gf are in a long distance relationship, and we are both 21 and 22, and we want to eventually be married.

She has always been the one to want to be married asap. At first, I was reluctant to this agreement, so we got this plan for her to come to school as an international grad student, live together for a year or so, and then get married.

Tonight, We talk on the phone, and we find out that she never really want to go to grad school, and the only reason for grad school, was be with me. It turns out that w/ studying for GRE, handling her school work, and also a pt tutoring job, is overwheliming and is too hard for her.

She tells me she wants us to get married, and she says stuff like "I can give up my life for you, why can't you give up anything for me?" stuff like that.

I mean, this is marriage we are talking about, I really can't take that step so quick......

so am I just being bad by not giving up anything for her? or......

vote please.

Where's the option for "long distance relationships seldom work out"?

Or maybe I'm the insensitive SOB, but that's what I learned several times.

well, lets not put citizenship thing into play...just kind of, "what would you do in this type of situation...?"

I mean, I always thought when it comes to something like marriage, you have to be ready when both sides are ready no?

just tell her your not ready yet, when the time comes you will be ready to give up whatever it takes.

its kinda like she gives up anal for the rest of her life and you give up nintendo for an hour.

I can give up my life for you, why can't you give up anything for me?"

She can give it all up before marriage. After marriage, this type of person will be dragging you around by your balls.

(o)(o)

You will see more again, you are too young to get married. Live at least some of your life before getting married.

she's playing you for your citizenship and maybe she just really wants to get married.

If she really loved you she'd respect that you are just not ready. You're 21. That is kinda young to get married. I'd wait atleast the 24-26 range before I even discussed marriage seriously.

Did you meet your gf before she moved international? Or did you move to the US later? Otherwise i would be a little wary.

dont get forced into a marriage when you clearly arent ready. and it seems like her intentions for marriage is not solely her love for you (read...citizenship)

you're an idiot. she's playing you and wants to become a citizen.

i wouldn't have been this harsh but your gf pulled out the classic line,

She tells me she wants us to get married, and she says stuff like "I can give up my life for you, why can't you give up anything for me?" stuff like that.

which is code for "i'm a b!tch."
