The Blue Streak is a wooden roller coaster built in 1937 at Conneaut Lake Park in Conneaut Lake, PA. It's a great classic out-and-back coaster that has a 30 second long tunnel you enter right out of the station on your way to the lift hill, just like the Giant Dippers at both Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (one of my favorites, and in many movies), and Belmont Park in San Diego (which was set to be demolished in the 80's, but is now, thanks to a group of citizens, a National Historic Landmark!) .

Blue Streak hasn't operated since 2006, and needs refurbishing to be able to do so again, but the funds aren't available to do so. The Conneaut Lake trustees are trying to raise $125,000 for this work. ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts) has given $10,000 (here's a 6/25/10 article on that). Supposedly the park owes a lot of back dept and could eventually shut down if Blue Streak, their star attraction, doesn't open back up. The park opened in 1892!

* Here's where you, the ATOT'er, come in. Pepsi is offering a $50,000 Pepsi Refresh Grant award, decided by public voting, and the Blue Streak Restoration Project is in the running, currently at 18th place. The top 10 voted projects by the end of July will each receive $50,000 in funding.

So please, GO HERE TO VOTE! And you can vote once a day, every day!
FYI, I couldn't get Firefox to work when voting, so had to use IE. After voting, the "In the Running For $50K" (just above the vote button) will change to "Nice one!", "Thanks!", etc.

Also, please install the voting app to your facebook page to bring in even more votes (see app link on the voting page).

This is a project I can get behind, but I don't have facebook. Any other way to vote without getting on a spam list?

Voted with a temp email. Kind of a PITA, but an independent amusement park, with a wooden coaster's worth it :^)

You do not need facebook (or a temp email) to vote. Adding it to your facebook is just a to bring in more votes.

I didn't have any problems at all voting with IE. It's very easy and doesn't take a minute.

voted, added to facebook, and bump.

Seems like a much more worthy cause than some of the others. Neutering a couple hundred cats? All it takes is one intact male & that's completely pointless. And one year from now, the number of stray cats running around will be back to the same numbers.

Providing $5000 scholarships to a few kids to attend YOUR music school? In other words, get paid an extra $50,000 and let a few kids come for free because you have the extra space.

The rollercoaster is a part of America's history & will be about the only enduring project of the top 15. The Tonawanda skate park was another.

Firefox, Opera, and Chromium all require an email, or login via Facebook unless I'm missing the magic anonymous button.

What I meant was it doesn't require a temporary email (since you mentioned it) vs. a regular email, but not sure why I even said that, really, so scratch it. But I just used my regular email.

So, you do have to create a quick account with pepsi (name, email, DOB, password only).

No, just an email, with your name and stuff. I used a fake name, and a temp email. I don't like spreading my spammable information around when I don't need to. Off to vote again :^)

Edit:
I guess you really are signing up for Pepsi's stuff. Not something I want though.

I get so much spam already, and yahoo sends almost 100% of it to the spam folder, that I'll never notice any additional spam. :) But, at least Pepsi should have legit unsubscribe options with their promo emails.

Thanks for voting! Didn't win that one, but a new contest has begun, ending August 31st, so considering I posted so late last time, there's more time to vote this time around.
