Alright guys....I just got my new Asus A7V333 RAID mobo and I set everything up and I'm having a few problems (go figure)...

.Anyways my first major problem is I can't Partition my drives with partition magic....now I think its a mobo problem conflicting with Dos or something cuz when Parition magic needs to restart in dos it wont...it goes straight to windows......I tried to PQmagic with my rescue disks and it freezes up in Dos......I used to same disk on SEVERAL other computers and PQMagic loads just perfectly!! THIS is really really pissing me off cuz of 120 gigs of unpartitioned space!! Also to rule out the idea of a bad motherboard I returned my old board and got a new one and the new one does the same thing....

My second problem is my comp just powered down randomely twice....(no I didnt have a power failure in my house either!) Not sure if this can be associated with the motherboard. Any help would be great. Thanks!!!!

I'm sort of shooting in the dark on your software problem, but is the HDD plugged into the Promise auxiliary IDE controller? If so, put it on the standard IDE controllers (the lower pair of connectors). Also make sure boot-sector virus protection isn't switched on in the BIOS. If the problem is simply that your board doesn't boot from floppy, then you can alter the boot device order in the BIOS as well.

The first thing to worry about, however, is the random power-downs. One possible cause is that your CPU is overheating. Reasons the CPU may overheat:

  • The heatsink might be on 180 degrees backwards. If so, it will be unable to make square contact with the CPU. Solution: ensure that the end of the heatsink with a step cut into it is at the lever end of the CPU socket.
  • The thermal interface between the CPU and heatsink might be poor. The most likely reason is that you switched motherboards, meaning you removed the heatsink. The stock thermal pad made of phase-change thermal compound is a one-use-only item. After you have installed the heatsink and powered up the first time, it "melts to fit" the gap between the CPU and heatsink. Afterwards, there will not be enough material at the contact area to fill the gap properly a second time. Solution: get a tube of Arctic Silver 3, remove all traces of the phase-change thermal compound, and use AS3.
  • The heatsink might not have adequate cooling capabilities. Tell us what kind it is and that will help.
  • The case might be too hot. Is your case equipped with at least one auxiliary 80mm+ exhaust fan?

If the case/power supply is a new one, check to make sure the 110V/220V slide switch on the rear of the case's power supply is set for the right voltage.

Here is more A7V333 info: thread Welcome to the Forums, hope you find a solution to your A7V333 issues :D

Thanks for the input mechBgon!! My floppy reads fine.......but I'm gonna try to disable the virus protection program and see what that does for me...

Also I'm running to IBM 60gig HD's and I have them plugged into the RAID IDE ports and I am running RAID 0...

About the CPU...its a 1.2ghz T-Bird...and i'm NOT overclocking..I have a Taisol heatsink......I checked and I have it mounted correctly and also I put a fresh layer of Arctic Silver on it when I installed it on the new mobo....I was checkin my temps and the CPU isn't going over 57 degrees celcius. Is this a normal temp???

I have an Antec Performanc Plus860 case....I have every possible case fan I can squeeze in there!!

I'm wondering if the software knows how to handle the RAID and/or the Promise controller. Might have to start over on that one... :(

57C is a proper temperature reading for that board, my own setup runs about the same. That rules out overheat as a cause of the shutdowns, so I don't know what else would be causing that. Good luck, though!

Well I had my drives partitioned with my old Abit-KT7 RAID board using partition magic....but yea maybe it could be the Promise Controller......
