Hey guys, I'm winning a bid on a WD Scsi drive 18.3 7200. Current bid 121 shipped. Any opinions? Should I keep going?

Seems like a good price to me... new or used? refurb?

Even if it was used or refurb I'd go for it, providing the bid is from a good seller (i hope for your sake its not ubid).

Check out Tekram, and if you've got the money, Adaptec.

Multiwave Direct carries SCSI controllers. Also, you could do a search on Pricewatch.

<< Nope. Guess I'll need to find one. Any recommendations? >>

seems like a very odd way of going scsi especially as that hdd is only a 7200rpm one! :frown:

as long as he have a good fast primary scsi drive to load os and application. this drive is a cheap solution for storage without
going to scsi/ide route. i do admit i have spend over 500.00 to
go all scsi. eventhrough its only ultrascsi2. or sca2.
i do have combine of 70gig of scsi space, a tekram 390u2w and sony 10x4x32 cdrw, 2 cdrom(plextor die on me after 3 month).

if i would have gone with the top speed setup. controller and 9gig scsi and cdrw alone will have cost me more then what i have spent.

dr0p0ut, while agreeing with you, he doesn't appear to have a scsi card in the first instance hence can't have "a good fast primary scsi drive to load os" :), hence my comment!

since he bid 2 so far, he will bid more :) i know i did. ( i now know i should not have. da*n ons*le). eyez make sure your next drive is at least 10k rpm also is 80mb/s, ultrascsi2 or sca2. than start looking for tekram 390u2w or adaptor 2940u2w, you will be set. there are people buying the whole set with one purchase. then there is me :), slowing collecting parts until the rig is complete :)..

i am just want to point out, drive may be a bit slow, maybe outdated,
there are still some use for them. unless eyez bought 29160 and follow by couple super fast 160mb/s drive after his last bid, then he is scrwed.. hehe.. ;)

dr0p0ut

maybe adaptor 19160 might be a better choice then the ultrascsi2 controller. since it does not limit your upgrade path. i am stuck
on tekram 390u2w but i am in no hurry to upgrade. i dont do video editing, or 3d drawing. i just want to burn cd, watch dvd, while downloading some file. maybe transfer couple gig of file at the same time. i dont think ide drive can handle that.. hehe

but he's gotta buy the 80-68 pin adaper, unless he's got a server with an SCA backplane already.
