Depends on what you're trying to do with it. As some have said, Divx is a good choice. Also, you could use a program like TMPGEnc to encode it as an MPEG file, like a VCD. I would check out www.vcdhelp.com for more info.

thank you guys scitex solved my problems, without sacrificing much quality =D. i saved 100 mb on a 20 minute AVI file
