Recently found myself with buku time on my hands and a significant need to get my mind off of my troubles. So, Game. My favorites are the RPGs (NWN2, BG-Series, DA:O, etc...).

So I have already played the following:

Fallout 1-3 + New Vegas
ME 1-2.
NWN 1 - 2 plus all expansions and all of the custom mods that I want
Icewind Dale 1-2
Kotor 1-2
Two Worlds 1-2
Planescape Torment
KoA:R
DA:O (and DA2, but that game sucked)
Skyrim (and all previous TES games)
Arcanum
Wasteland

And a bunch of others. Anyway, any suggestions on what to take on next?

I have played EQ and never really liked the MMO format. I am intrigued (morbidly so) by Star Wars TOR, but am not sure I am going to like it. I will not play WoW.

Never been into the JRPG games. Don't know why, but just really not liking them at all. never played any FF games, and won't. Just not appealing to me in the slightest. Call it a bias.

Not sure about Chronotrigger.

Add to the list I have played:

Witchhunter 1 (didn't much like it)
Vampire the Mascarade
ToEE (Loved it)
Baldur's Gate Series (among the best in the industry)

Started Risen. Didn't get too far. I know I have it, somewhere. Might try that out. Thanks for the suggestion.

Anything else?

I guess another question I have is, would i really hate Star Wars: TOR, if I really don't enjoy MMOs? is there much point in trying to play solo? it isn't that I am anti-social. just that I don't have a routine playing time and therefore it is hard to get a group of steady companions (and I don't want to just random band). Also, I like my progression to actually mean and account for something. Playing EQ, advancement meant nothing. You faced mobs with different appearances, but never got easier, nor different in any way. just as frustrating.

Grimrock is a no brainer. How about old style games like the Spiderweb games (Avadon, Avernum, etc.) or Drakensong?

Divine Divinity I and II (very different), Witcher 2 (I hear it's pretty different from the first), Arx Fatalis.

Did you play Dragon Age Awakening?

For a real change of pace, try rogue or a rogue-like game.

How bout the Drakensang games. I played the first one when it came out and thought it was a pretty good though mostly overlooked game.

Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil, Final Fantasy III (6), Zelda: A Link to the Past, Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, Rachet and Clank, Thief, Deus Ex, Onimusha, Mario RPG, Shining Force (3?), ChronoTrigger, Ghost Recon (first few), Jungle/Desert/Urban Strike

Those are probably the "best" games I've played, a bit eclectic but all great games.

The Witcher 1&2
Divinity 2 The Dragon Knight Saga
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (I'm not a SF fan but this game was good)

Anyways, you should check out the F2P section in Steam. I say Vindictus. No particular reason, just looks cool. Its like an Action RPG, but MMO. Combat looks really good.

Just for completeness, and in case you missed one of these:
Temple of Elemental Evil
Sacred Gold
Any of the Ultima Series.

All available cheap on GOG

Based on your list, you need to play The Witcher games.

Tried Witcher 1 (see above). Didn't like it very much. The combat was just not to my liking what so ever. I hear that Witcher 2 is better/different. So maybe.

On pearl I discovered a long time ago: Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga.

Awesome game that simply hooked my to my screen, couldn't stopped. Highly recommend it and it's pretty cheap on Steam at $24.

Don't get Divinity 2: Ego draconis, get Dragon Knight Saga, you get lots of new content for a few dollars more.

I was going to post something similar to this. I bought Divinity 2 DKS on a whim from Amazon during a sale and it has been a blast.

Try REALLY old school games like The Wizardry series, The Bards Tale series, Ultima and Ultima Underworld, Might & Magic, etc. Some of those game are huge and the series might take you months to finish.

I ran out of good games and loaded up FF7 again.

I recommend getting a used PS2 cheap and search for some games you may have missed. I am loving Dragon Quest 8 and Valkyrie and all the others.

I'm a big fan of Gothic 2, never played 1 or the following games, but if you get that one, read a guide, it'll save you some time getting going. It's difficult, save often.

Also, I love most of the same games you do, but I'll make an outside recommendation to try Thief, either from GoG or possibly on Steam now. That's a great, moody game, with varying difficulties for added challenges. There are some hair-raising sequences where you absolutely can't be found.

Did the combat ever get non horrible?
There is so much fighting that it gets so repetitive so quickly, that I pretty much gave up because of how boring that got.
The rest wasn't bad, at least to where I got, but that combat...

Played all of the old school games you listed. And the Gold Box DnD games. I have been playing RPGs for a REALLY long time. I remember when neverwinter nights was an AOL game.

But thanks for the suggestions.

I'm about 6 hours into Avernum: Escape from the Pit (found on Steam). It seems like a good title. 90's era RPG roleplay (expect 90s graphics, so if you can't deal with that, skip). Open world but you are constrained by your current level (you can't immediately head for dragon territory for instance).
