A few requirements...

1) $100 or less
2) Capacity around 80-120GB (more is fine of course :p)
3) External power
4) Already comes formatted in NTFS
5) USB 2.0
6) No issues of overheating/reputation of unreliability.

Thanks in advance!

Why? Windows can re-format FAT32 to NTFS without much effort.

It's for a computer newbie so I'd rather not have to explain to them how because they'll just ask me to do it. And I can't use the FS/FT because he wants a new one. But I will check out GottaDeal. Thanks.

I use a pocket external USB 2 1/2" from here.

When you plug it in to your computer, it will install automatically in XP, and then it will need formatting, pick NTFS.
Since its in a lightweight aluminum enclosure, You will notice it will get warm, but never too hot to the touch .

get an internal drive, and purchase an external enclosure form newegg.com. I am sure you can get an even larger hd and enclosure and stay under $100. I just upgraded my internal drive, and use my 160gb in an external enclosure now, and it works great.
