need an experts help...

I have 2 computers here, a switch, and a DSL router that the DSL company gave us...Question number 1. One box is Win98SE {FAT32} the other is Win2kSP1 {NFTS} how do i set it up to share files and be able to see/read/write to each others drives? question number 2. How do i share the dsl...please dont post a link to another question because ive seen some here and didnt understand them.

What exactly do you have, DSL companies usually give DSL Modem, not a Router.

You need a DSL Modem, and a Hub/Switch, or Cable /DSL Router (like the SMC Barricade).

Which one you have.

My suggestion is forget for a moment about the Internet, make your Network functional first.

Most of us resort to Links, because some of the instructions are very long, and need some graphic representation.

So unfortunately, here is a Link to help you to set the Network, take a look at the link and tell me if I can post something like this here:

Once your Network is working correctly, it is time to attend to the Internet.

However it is two different stories weather you have just a Hub/Switch, or a Cable/DSL Switch/Router?

its Alltel DSL and they gave us a Cisco 678 DSL router

Here's a diagram of the setup:

Computer --- hub/swtich --- DSL modem --- phoneline
Computer _____/

You must use the uplink port or a crossover cable to connect the hub/swtich to the DSL modem/router.

I am not familiar with this piece of Hardware, but I will give it a shut, so take it with a grain of salt.

The Cisco 678 appears to be combination of DSL modem + one port Ethernet Router with DHCP, and PAT capacity.

DHCP means that you don?t have to assign IP numbers to your computers. The Router will take care of it.
PAT means that you don?t need ICS. The PAT (NAT) will control the Internet distribution.

Since this is a ONE port, Router and you have more then one Computer you will have to add a Switch to add few ports.

Your Connection is:

Phone-DSL-(Cisco 678)-Switch- Computers

Each computer is pluged to a Switch Port (order does not matter).

If your switch has an Uplink connector you connect the Cisco 678 with straight CAT5 cable, otherwise use a Crossover cable to a regular port on the switch.

Set up should be like any Cable/DSL Router. Go back to my Post above.

As for setting the Internet follow your ISP instructions, I have no clue how your ISP is setting the Connections.
