Need an audio editing program

I've got some audio files that I want to make into short clips, but I don't have the software, and I don't really know where to look. I'd like a free program that is capable of snipping clips of mp3 files and saving them to different files. It's probably pretty basic. I've seen programs that have the right and left audio wave graphs that are just drag and drop type stuff...i guess that's what i'm hoping for. Any suggestions on apps that could do this for me?
 
actually, i may have found one....i have something called creative wave studio...came with my sound card. I'll see what it can do.
