Okay, I was reading an advice column on Princeton Review. It only mentioned recommendation letters from teachers.
My questions is that if I can get some one who has nothing to do with teaching and all to write it, but has glorious achievment in many areas. Would that help?

Never heard of a recommendation letter from anyone other than a previous instructor.

edit: I think you need a congressman's endorsement to apply to the military academys... but that's sort of a special case.

Some colleges accept it. I know that Stanford has a supplemental recommandation form that you can give to whoever you want, but it is not required. If you know the President of the United States, it would probably help 🙂

Good luck.

If it's a religious college, a pastor's letter might be useful. If it's a trade school, an employer's letter would be good. Anybody else, they might just figure it's a family friend that would tell them you walk on water if it got you in the school.
