After hearing so much about the Xbox, I think it's time for me to pick one up :)

Obviously, I need the console but I know there are bundles with extra controllers, a couple games, etc.

I've read a bunch of threads here but I was wondering what people think is the best current deal out there to buy an xbox system? thanks!

First off, search the Hot Deals forum. :)

Secondly, I think there's a way to get XBox, 2 controllers, the SegaGT/JSRF disc, and a DVD kit for US$200 after rebate.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thirdly, it's advice, not advise.

You can get it for $185 shipped @ buy.com with a $15 off $200 (or above?) purchase.

That's currently the best deal I believe. Circuit City had one a week ago where you'd get like $50 (or so) in MSN rewards which could be spent at various retailers.

You're not going to find it for much below $200 since that's the price Microsoft sets on the console.

If you don't mind a used one I'd try the FS/FT forum. I believe Yourself had one for sale on the FS/FT boards for $175 shipped. Don't think he even used it.

Well, I was assuming he was excluding such things as the FS/T forums, eBay, and the local pawn shops.

I'd prefer to get one retail anyhow - that way if it's got the ever-popular Ghost Recon / Splinter Cell "Dirty Disc Error" I can just ship it off to MS or take it back to the store. (Unless it's used from a trusted member who's verified it doesn't get those errors.)

Dirty Disc error? Could you explain this? I was going to buy Splinter Cell as well?

Some of the newer XBoxes have defects in the drive, leading them to be unable to read Ghost Recon or Splinter Cell discs. (It's mostly Ghost Recon, apparently.) These are brand-new fresh from the box XBoxes, and undamaged legal copies of Ghost Recon. You get one game of GR in on Live, then you get to reset.

And that's in addition to many users being unable to see GR games in the lobby, skipping, lag, etc.

Suffice it to say, XBox owners are pissed.

Tallgeese? Hello? Your presence has been requested. :)

Tallgeese keeps the XBOX deals thread in the Hot Deals forum and it is usually up to date on latest deals.

You can get a factory refurbished XBox, packaged the same as a new Xbox from the factory from ebgames for $150. These were fixed by Microsoft.

Buy XBOX from EBGames or Circuit City and get 20% back on your purchase in MSN Cash at eshop.msn.com

The buy.com deal as mentioned above.

Toys R Us had a great deal that my co-worker jumped on...he got spiderman, nfl fever, sega gt 2002, Jet Set Radio Future, S controller, and some third party controller all for $249. Dunno if they're still running it though.

EB World, GameStop and Babbages (all same company) has an Xbox mail-in rebate offer. Buy the Xbox + 2 games + 1 accessory (19.99+) and get $50 off. All ($199) Xbox systems now come with the two games, so its a great deal for $200.

If only it was online ... we need a patch for that! Quickly! I don't care if it's a 100MB download!

Schweet. JSRF, Sega GT, two more games, and a normal controller. I frickin' hate the Controller-S.

Actually, all new Xbox systems come with the S controller. The base controller is being phased out.

For what it's worth, I am 6'4" and prefer the S controller. The regular one is way too huge and blocky for my comfort. The S fits me to a T.

I am almost 6' and have huge hands and I can not STAND the original Xbox controller. I just don't like the feel of it. It is too awkward. I like the S-controller much better.

I prefer the regular controller. The other two systems controls just seem too small.
