I recently moved web/email servers. (about 10days ago) I have 1 computer on my network that still resolvves xyz.com to the old ip address.

she can goto xyz.com/webmail and check her NEW email account fine, xyz.com show up fine in her web browser but
when I ping mail.xyz.com (the mailserver) it returns the old ip address.

I have done "ipconfig /dnsflush" she is on dhcp, her hosts file is fine, and the router which handles dns for the network pings the correct address.

My temp work around is to put in the ip address in her email program. but can anyone think of why windows is holding onto the wrong IP address?

xp pro with outlook 2002 BTW

Just to be sure, have you checked to make sure she doesn't have any other DNS servers set up on her machine that might be resolving the wrong IP?

You can do an nslooup from the DOS prompt of her PC to see exactly which DNS server is being queried and what the result is.

C:\>nslookup mail.xyz.com

Just for the hell of it you can also query some other name server from her machine and see what the result is, for example:

C:\>nslookup mail.xyz.com ns1.cisco.com
