I have an Alpha Pal8045U with the Delta 80mm, 46.1CFM, 40dBA and a Thermalright AX-7 with a Mechatronics 80mm, 53CFM, 39dBA. Which one should I use on my new 1800+ system. Thanks, Kent
In case you haven't heard, AMD recently removed the requirement to place four holes in the motherboard around the socket area. Some manufacturers (MSI for one) have already decided to eleminate the holes on their newest motherboard models (not available yet). I believe that this is what KentW was referring to. Bummer!
I have the alpha and I would go with the ax-7. Much easier to install, like the multiple lug attachment, and the performance is similiar. Plan to go that route with my next hsf purchase
Personally I prefer the bolting down method because it's much more secure. Any idea if it is "just" the holes that are going away or is the "keep out" area around the cpu going down as well?
Have you thought about the noise control silverado?
I've been running this machine for a month now and am yet to go above 32c on the cpu.
It's two fans force air down and are doing a great job. The best bit is that it is very quiet at 38 dB!
If you are interested be aware that it is 11cm tall.
Not the best pic but it gives you an idea - Inside my case
