Need advice on whats a nice place for CAMPING

I've looked at websites for Harriman and Bear State Park and was wondering if there are any other nice places for camping in a group (15-20ppl max).

We all live in the NYC area so a 1-2hr drive is a definite plus!

Harriman state park is very nice. I hike there a lot and I've camped there. I especially like this camp site next to Lake Tiorati.

Its a great place for newbie campers and experienced campers alike. If you want something a bit more extreme look into Catskill state park which should be a 2 hour drive for you.

edit: some more recommendations:

for a really unique terrain experience which resembles somethign you would see in Olympic national park you can try Sages Ravine It's at the Connecticut/Mass border so it's going to be a longer trip, maybe 2.5 hours for you. but it's well worth it! the campsite is great but the river next to the campsite is such an awesome sight. Also you can take a day hike to Race mountain which has some pretty awesome views.

You could also try a trip to the Delaware river water gap where you can rent canoes and even take your gear on board and spend a night at a campsite along the river

There's a place called Kinzua Dam in northern PA if you want to drive a bit farther. It's a great area. We usually go camping for 2 weeks there in the summer and do some boating as well.

another vote for the part of the AT that goes through Delaware Water Gap. just head across the GWB and keep going west on I-80. it's like 65 miles from nyc.

go to canoe rental shop, leave car there, get canoe, go down river, camp at sites along the river, meet rental shop people somewhere down river at predetermined time and place, they drive you back to your car in their parking lot.
