i was wondering when i dj at a party or club with those full range speakers thumping the dance floor, what kinda speakers do i need near me so i can hear the song that's currently playing? can i just use a midrange speaker from my mini stereo system or something close? or do i need more expensive speakers that'll let me hear the song clearly since i'lly only hear the echo and vibration of the dancefloor speakers

it depends on how serious you are getting into it...
if your just doing it for fun, a pair of two way home speakers should be fine. If you are doing it and want it to sound as best as it can, you can get a nice pair of 2 way studio monitors

EDIT:
but if you could use headphones, that would be best

i know i'm already suppose to use headphones to mix!!
but when u're in a club room, w/ one headphone in one ear, it's hard to mix to the dancefloor speakers kuz of the echo and sound bouncing back from the walls, that's why i need midrange speakers facing only the dj on the sides...

Depending on how much u wanna spend, but Mackie ART500's (Self Powered 12" x 2") and some of the JBL Eon's are becoming popular amongst DJ's locally. If you're not familiar w/'em they're a self-powered box that can be stad mounted, or can be angled on the floor, similar to a stage monitor, and are very easy to use. Perfect and Portable for a Monitor. You could also look into some of the new Yorkville Self-Powered stuff, they make speakers that are smaller, and may be better suited for what you need.
Your mileage may vary!
