Hey, guys I've been reading/searching around and I can't decide which way to go. I live in the U.S. california, so I can't order from newegg due to high tax rates.. Only places I know are ncixus.com,buy.com, and tigerdirect.com

System is for: games @ 1680x1050 native res mostly, company of heroes, tf2, starcraft2, red alert. I have 1 8800gt bfg OC 512mb card, antec neo he 500(not sure if this is enough for sli but I dont mind upgrading the psu when i get the 2nd card) in an Antec p180 case air cooled.

Goal: Q6600@ 3ghz + 2x8800gt (sli in the future maybe in 1 to 2 yrs) + 4gb

budget: $210usd or less for sli motherboard basically I can afford the memory/cpu/heatsink only problem is motherboard

alternative: Non-sli Q6600@ 3ghz + abit ip35pro + 4gb

Problem: I can't find any 780i boards under $250usd. I'm trying real hard to avoid boards with active cooling and prefer ones with passive cooling/heatpipes like the abit ip35pro/evga 680i, I know that makes them expensive.. Anyways from what I've been reading 680i boards have a lot of problems with overheating and low overclocking vs intel boards? Should I even bother getting the evga 680i for sli? Or am I better off going single card with an abit ip35 pro or is there a better alternative?

I wouldnt bother with sli, especially at 1680x1050. I would go with the p35 board

You could try the 750i chipset for $150 if you really want... But at your resolution, it's overkill.

If you're not planning to put the second card in until a year or two down the road, SLI is not for you.
