I have the following:

Maxtor 20 GB 7200rpm
Maxtor 40 GB 7200rpm
Plextor CD-RW 12/10/32
Toshiba 12x DVD-ROM

How would you set it up in terms of Primary/Secondary channels, and master/slave drives?

Thanks in advance.

Maxtor 20 GB 7200rpm - Primary Master
Maxtor 40 GB 7200rpm - Primary Slave
Plextor CD-RW 12/10/32 - Secondary Master
Toshiba 12x DVD-ROM - Secondary Slave

The two hard drives are interchangeable. It depends on which one you want as your boot drive and storage drive. The Plextor works best and likes to be the master. That is what the intructions say as well. This is the way I have my CDR(TDK/Plex 12X) and DVD(Pioneer 104S).

I would actually switch the slave configuration that Larry Joe posted.

Perhaps I'm not thinking correctly, but I reasoned that if I wanted to do an on-the-fly copy of a CD, I would want the DVD (reader) to be on a different IDE channel from the CDRW.

There are many different configs that will all work fine. Hmmm...on the fly copying? I assume it won't work if the CD's are on the same chain? Just curious. I always copy to hard drive first with CloneCD.

Hm.. not too sure if I'll actually be doing on-the-fly CD copying.. well, maybe..

But then if I'm using the primary HDD while copying CD, wouldn't that potentially cause some problems?

The config I gave above is virtually the same one I use (I have an HighPoint Cintroller on the mobo) and I have yet to have a problem. Heck, I have watched DVD's and played Q3 while burning.

On the fly burning will work in this configuration. just that ur DVD rom or CD-rom should be 3.5-4x faster than your CD-r
