My machine has been really acting up lately and I've now got three problems and I have no idea if theyre software or hardware. Anyways, my system is running gf3 ti 200 (29.42), sb live! x-gamer, xp 1600, shuttle ak31 rev 3.1(their oldest kt266a board. dont know if thats the right rev #) and a 250w antec ps (PP253X i think). Anyways, I guess my three problems from most entertaining to most disturbing are:
I play a lot of counterstrike but since saturday, some of the times (not always) when I get flashbanged (for those of you who dont know, its basically equivalent to being blind and it turns your screen white), my monitor starts changing colors. Yes, this sounds as severely on drugs as could be but its true. My monitor will basically put an incredibly strong tint over the entire screen (o btw, my monitor is a syncmaster 900nf) and the color seems to be completely random. its happened 3 times now and the first two times it was blue, and the last time it started as red and then turned all funky and started switching between purple, blue, red, and yellow. Now many of you might think its the cable and thats what I thought at first too (BTW, the first time it happened, i was on 28.32s and it caused me to go to 29.42) but after quitting counterstrike, the color is fine. So yea, that ones kind of strange....
The next problem is still counterstrike related. Basically when Im playing, at random, my computer will freeze up. This only happens in counterstrike too, not in other games (ok so I guess that cements the fact that its software but it still might be drivers related). Basically, my computer will freeze up and my speakers will just play the last .5 seconds or so of sound over and over and over. Sometimes windows xp kicks in and tells me there was an error, other times, I just have to reset my machine.
Finally, and this one is really bothering me, this morning, I wanted to use my machine and when I turned it on, it was running scandisk (I had to force shut it down last night) and I skipped it and it restarted automatically immediately afterwards (this isnt the first time this has happened btw) so I let it restart and run scandisk. After running thru, it restarted again and upon rebooting, it told me windows had failed to load successfully. Well I just went ahead and let it load normally and skipped scandisk and it restarted on me again. Anyways, I had to leave for work so I didnt get to try it any more than that.
So I guess the question is, am I going to need new hardware, and if so, where? or do I just need to reformat? Thanks for any help you guys can give on any of these problems.
