Need advice on New PSU for Asus 4870

I need some advice on a new Psu.

I originally had a visiontech 4850 but, I got a great deal and up graded to an ASUS 4870.

Here are my first system specs:

Intel E7200 O'ced to 3.8 GHZ
Asus P5Q deluxe
OCZ titanium 2 gigs 6400
Zalman 9500 cooler.
Cooler master 550 watt Psu
Wd 150 Gb raptor Hd
Seagate 500Gb Hd

After installing the 4870, I was getting all type of shut down problems and crashes. I searched the web. I updated the drivers to cat 8.7...uninstalled..reinstalled. downgraded to 8.6. I did the fan fix. I thought that it was a bum card. Then I put the card into my other system:

Intel Q6600
Evga 780i Mb
Tuniq tower
Ocz 700 Watt Psu
WD raptor 150 gb
OCZ pc 9200 2GB
Evga 8800 GTS G92 512(I took this out to put in the 4870)

The Card worked like a charm. So i contributed my problem to underpowered PSU.
The OCZ psu Had 2 6 pin connectors and the Coolermaster had one 6 pin and i had to use an adapter.

Here is my delima. I'm looking to buy a new PSU.
I want to have 2 systems. 1 for gaming and one for editing and etc.

I am considering going crossfire soon(Getting another 4870 0r getting a 44870X2 when it launches) so I want to future proof my Psu for a while and the coolermaster Psu wont fire up my Evga 8800Gts in my backup system. Here are my 3 choices. What do you guys think would be the best choice for me. I did a little research. Seems like these are good choices and good prices without having to splurge on a 1000 Watt PSU.

To OP your links are dead.
About 650-700 quality PSU from Enermax/Corsair/OCZ/PC P&C should be plenty for 4870 CF. Heck I'm planning to run CF4870 on my Corsair HX620. I did some power draw tests on several cards including a previous 8800GTS 640 and it drew 350w for a full system (OCed CPU, 3 HDDs, 7 fans, water cooling equipment) so I'm sure a CF4870 will run fine on this 620w PSU.

Dont really know what the difference is between the 2 pc and power cooling ones..besides one being silent. The cosairs one seems pretty good also.

I have to start brushing up on my PSU knowledge. Before these high powered graphics cards came out it was a no brainer. lol.

I heard the the PC and Power cooling Psu's run a little long. Will they fit in to either of my cases? I have a thermaltake armor full tower and a thermaltake armor Jr. mid tower.

From what I've read...the non-silencer PC P&C PSUs are loud although they perform very well so you might wanna stay away from them. As long as the Thermaltake is a Toughpower model you're okay, but I'd go with the PC P&C...and it's cheaper too.

I use a PCP&C 750W Silencer on my HD4870 and it works fine. Also has two 6-pin connectors by default (like the other PSU you mentioned).

Guys, if he adds a HD4870X2 alongside his current HD4870, do you think a 750w PSU is still enough? I'm not sure. I said the same thing in his duplicate thread in the PSU section.

Even that would most likely be cutting it very close. A 4870x2 would probably add ~300w to the system.

I have a thermaltake armor full tower case (its a workout to move and lift) and I also have a thermaltake armor jr case. I will probably keep the gaming machine in the armor jr mid tower case. I'm probably looking to get rid of one or the other and get a new case. Any suggestions?

I have reduced my quest for a new PSU down to 2 choices.

I am strongly leaning towards the Cosairs TX 750W because, it seems to be a little more future proof because it has 4 PCI-E with 6+2 pin options. I'm not sure if the PC power silencer has these. I also hear that the PC power silencer runs a little longer than most PSU's. Will it fit into the mid and full thermaltake towers?

I'm sure in the next couple of months the GPU war will heat up and AMD and NVidia will try to out do each other with more power hungry GPU's that will require both 6 pin and 8 pin connectors.

Oh by the way. What is the launch date on the 4870x2 and the 4850x2 and what are the price ranges. I know that you insiders have some info..lol.

I'm sure it would fit in both cases since there doesn't seem to be any obstruction along the top length (unlike say the Antec P180 where there's a fan bracket that blocks longer PSUs), but you probably won't be able to use an optical drive in the top 1 or 2 bays since you'd need some room for the wiring.

The 4870x2 is supposed to come out on August 12th for around $450-$550 I believe. The 4850x2 I'm not sure about.

Hey, I just noticed you have 2GB of ram system.

If you get the Corsair PSU, you save yourself $20.

Then get 2GB OCZ Platinum $20

I'd get the corsair just b/c I think that it's roughly equivalent to the pcp&c unit but you save $20. good call russian on the ram upgrade!
