I hope i am providing all useful info here please ask if I was not clear or you need more info ty

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Me- wow cod mostly into fps and mmorg's
wifes system wow mainly
Daughters system wow and other mmorg's

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

900.00 usd

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

Usa

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.

Prefer intel like ati/amd but not honor bound to use them

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

my computer
q9450
ASUS P5Q DELUXE
ati 4850
4gb ddr
750gb hdd
2x 120gb sanddisk ssd's
cooler master case
PC Power and; Cooling Silencer 750 Quad 750W Computer Power Supply S75CF-B, 80 PLUS and SLI Certified

Wifes computer
e6600 core2duo
msi mobo g41m p34 (newly replaced failed mobo was asrock dual vista with 4x pci express slot)
4gb ddr3 1600 ram (recently replaced due to mobo upgrade)
ati hd 6450 (recently replaced a failing hd3850)
120gb sanddisk ssd's
80gb hdd
cooler master 550 power supply (recently upgraded after failed psu)
generic case

Daughters computer
e2200 core2duo
asrock dual vista mobo
ati x800 pro
80gb hdd
generic psu
generic case

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
too many restraints of budget and not knowing which motherboards have what I need , also if psu is powerful enough etc lead me going in circles> I am trying to Build 1 new and offer the best upgrades I can afford to other 2 computers to make 3 decent gaming computers If possible

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
possibly, though not as important as stable system

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.
I am half blind I run a 32 (i believe) monitor but game at 1368x780
wife runs same res and daughter runs 1024x 768 atm anything more and wow is unplayable on the x800

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Feb 7th when income tax comes in

10. Don't ask for a build configuration critique or rating if you are thin skinned.

not a problem I need help lol

Ok here is the problem I want a new build.

all parts roll down hill to wife her parts roll to daughter so my old 9450 goes to wife minus the hdd and ssd's. she retains her ssd and 4850 video card and that goes into the 9450 she aquires.

daughter gets e6600 and the ati hd 6450 so everyone gets upgraded the 6450 seems to run wow at a decent framerate even in raids. x800 is a slideshow in raids at times also i believe due to asrock mobo limitations the 3850 was also too slow in raids stuttering etc

I am looking at the 17 2600k or 15 2500k
the 212 cooler I am looking at but not sure If it will fit the mobo
I need a mobo that has usb 3.0 sata 3 and can overclock
I need a new psu for daughters setup not sure what size is needed hec HP585D RETAIL 585W ATX12V in it now
I need ram as well ddr3 1600 8gb?
I believe everything is sata (hdd cdrw)
also might need a better video card for wow on daughters comp (so far it seems to do decent (can upgrade it at a later time if needed
I need at least 1 new video card that will last a decent amount of time that will power the 32 inch hd lcd
I am not sure If I want to swap all components case to case so would like to look at options here but hate giving up my Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced case but will swap if needed to achieve budget

Things not needed:

monitors
keyboards
mice
anti virus (eset on all)
windows (all running win 7 premium)

What i am looking at so far
SAPPHIRE 100314-3L Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card $164.99
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 $59.99
ASUS P8Z68-V $169.99
Intel Core i7-2600K $324.99
Subtotal: $719.96
Shipping: $10.10
Grand Total: $730.06

last question on the 6450 is it decent enough to get about a year of wow out of it?

Thank you for reading all this and any info / help you offer will be much appreciated

Is there a question in there somewhere?

looking for help making a great gaming build while still making other 2 computers run world of warcraft decently.

was hoping to get opinions on the older computers running it decently and help on a good gaming computer all on a 900usd budget

guess thats a lot of info to absorb

parts I am considering

If you don't mind the noise, I have a PNY (I think) 9600GSO 96SP 768MB video card that I could send you. The only drawback is, the fan rattles. It works fine (for now, at least).

I got a replacement 9600GSO 96SP card from a friend of a friend of mine, that doesn't rattle. He used to play WoW on it, without too much trouble, at 1280x1024 resolution.

If you're interested, PM me. I would put it in my FS thread, but not too many people want a video card with a fan that makes noise.

Your general plan is good, but the actual parts selection leaves something to be desired because they are overpriced/overkill for the most part.

Here's what I would do:
i5 2500K $230
ASRock Z68 Pro3 $100 AR
Crucial DDR3 1333 8GB $35
Sapphire 6870 $145 AR

Your daughter's computer needs something (anything) other than that HEC. The Corsair 430CX is more than enough power and is right now available for the astonishingly low price of $17 AR AP.

The 4850 is roughly equivalent to a 6750, though with less VRAM. So, if the 4850 is doing WoW OK, you could pass that down to your daughter and get your wife a $100 6770.

Woot! all parts came in and Everything works like a charm (minus one thing - The uefi Bios hates hdmi - though that is not major it just means I have to change monitors to adjust bios lol)

Still need to look up how to overclock this puppy as no matter what I set it to in bios it stays at 3.3 in windows and confirmed by cpu z. Other than that its a huge upgrade especially with the 2 120gb ssd's in raid. Much faster on the sata 3 controller that it was on the sata 2 controller :)

(just so you know I did have one Oh S**t moment when I started it up the first time and got no video, but i realized it was because I didnt add the 2 power wires to the video card) I thought the 212+ would give me trouble but when I first started it and checked temps it was 33 mobo 35 processor and 47 for processor under load so it seems I got that part right whew lol

Thank You all for all your input and help. This is a definite Wow Build in all aspects :)

Mike

oh and ty again mfenn 6770 ordered :D

Glad it is working out well for you!

As for overclocking, which settings are you changing in the BIOS?

the turbo does not change anything and i disabled c states and speed step i set oc to manual and bios says its at 4.2 but in windows its still 3.3. no matter what i change it to it stays at 3.3 per windows and cpu z

Well, if you are overclocking by raising the max turbo multiplier, you will not see any change until you actually put some load on the machine. To set an "always on" overclock, you need to change the base multiplier instead of the turbo one.

tried that too still only reads 3.3 in windows and cpu-z had it set at 42 and 45 (x100)

it shows manual but it still doenst change in windows but bios registers the 4200 and 4500 mhz

when i first got into the bios it was saying 4800 (hadnt changed any settings at that time.)

You're showing a 1600 MHz clock in CPU-Z because speed step is enabled. Put some load on the system with LinX and you should see the clock speed shoot up.

oh ok I had speedstep and all c states disabled in bios but to get the screenshot i used the extreeme tuner software and yeah that 1600mhz has always been there doh

Yup that shows 4200 mhz with the load. Is there a way to disable speedstep in bios (i have it set to disable but that does nothing)

Might be related to the hdmi bug I have with this setup (hdmi causes bios to be shown in 4 screens ...have to move mouse down to see bottom or right to see other half and that causes video tearing in bios

keyboard works but it doesnt seem to make a difference as no matter what i set speedstep to it still is 1600mhz in cpuz

Edit: I'll dig up a dvi cable later and see if that fixes the issue

using the offset voltage (I have it set to -0.050 at the moment ) the core voltage still goes to 1.328 at 4396 mhz temps hit 61 degrees. still working on getting core voltage down at idle the mobo is at 27 the cpu temp sits at 31 so that seems decent right?

real temp shows 51 on first core 61 on cores 2 and 3 and as high as 63 on core 4

at idle 30 28 30 37

Still working on core voltage so far at -0.060 offset max is now 1.312 low is 1.2

ok I am at 4500mhz. core voltage is at 1.344. offset at .04 and max temp 66C.

If those are good then I am very happy and ty mfenn i am going to stress test a while and see how that goes

woot finally found the intel throttling setting lol now disabled and at 4500mhz full time (was on next page in a sub menu)

so far passed 1 hour prime 95 ran linx 10 times ran all futuremark benchmarks and passmark as well as atto no blue screens seems to be running great will run prime 95 tonight all night to confirm :)

mfenn

Words cannot express the thanks I owe you, not only is this the best build i have ever done, but it exceeds my expectations. I could not have done this alone and thank you for holding my hand (so to speak) throughout the build as well as for all the help in overclocking this beast.

I will upload some pics soon

I feel a wee bit like a proud papa atm lol
