Ok, I think I decided on what to buy, I'm wondering if somebody could answer these questions for me:

1. Are all these parts compatible with each other?
2. Is this a good system, or would you suggest any changes to it? (without raising the price too much)
3. I'll be running Windows 98SE. Is that a problem? (does an Athlon XP need Windows XP?)
4. I don't need a sound card, right? (the motherboard has audio?) If this is correct, is the onboard audio good quality?

Here's what I'm buying:
Case: Antec SX630II $75
CPU: AMD ATHLON XP 1700+ 1.47GHZ (AX1700BOX) RETAIL BOXED W/COOLING FAN $57
Motherboard: Epox EP-8rda $103
Memory: MULTIWAVE 256MB PC2700 333MHZ NON-ECC DDR DIMM $54
Hard Drive: Maxtor 80 GB 8MB Buffer UATA133 $50
Video Card: GE Force4 Ti4200 128MB DDR AGP $90

Thanks for your help!
Kenny

98SE is fine. Check the nforce2 reviews this week on Anand Tech for a motherboard. Buy quality name brand memory. Onboard sound usually sucks but some of the nforce2 boards may be exceptions.

do you overclock.if you do, i recommend corsair xms.if you don't, then crucial will do just fine.

no, it doesn't

yes, the nforce and nforce2 has good sound quality

256MB PC2700 333MHZ NON-ECC DDR DIMM $54
if possible, get 2 sticks of 128mb ddr or 2 sticks of 256 ddr.this will enable the dual channel ddr on the nforce 2.but it will bring you little or none performance gains(between 0-1 percent difference).

I don't know about the sources that you picked. I personally stick with newegg.

I have never had a problem from them of any kind. I chose them because of their FPO/AP Shipping and good reputation around here. (I am in an unusual location...)
