Need advice on Dual P-III mobo

I currently have a P-III 1000 running on a BX motherboard, and decided to upgrade to dual CPU's, I don't need SCSI, IDE will do.

1) What are the current dual mobo choices and hpw much do they cost?
2) Is this a wise decision? Will I be better off getting a supposedly more futureproof Athlon or P-IV motherboard?
3) Will I face instabilities/incompatibilities/etc.? Also, I only have a 250W power supply

1. not sure
2. Do you need dual processors? If all you do is game and surf the web, you would benefit from a faster Athlon or a P4 more than a dual P3 machine.
3. Your 250 watt will probably not cut it. You will probably have to upgrade that to a good quality 350 watt + power supply. Also make sure your running a Operating system that supports dual processors (Windows NT, 2K, XP, Linux...) Win95/98/ME will only use one processor.

XP Home doesn't support SMP, only Pro and above.
You can find dual BX-boards but those aren't the best either.
Try to find a dual-Tualatin board.
Also, AVOID VIA'S DUAL CPU BOARDS!
There, I said it 🙂

a 250 MIGHT be able to cut it, i have dual 1ghz p3's on my 300 watt enhance, but it also has 3 u160 10k 9gb drives, an 80gb 5400 rpm drive, and a bunch of fans running off of it. it has been fine for me, and without the drives that i have, i think a 250 could do the job. but that's if that psu you have is of decent quality.

I use my computer for digital audio recording/processing (besides games and surfing) so I do need dual processors, and I think (though not sure) dual p-III's might be faster than a single P-IV 2.0 - and much cheaper. I already have XP Pro so no problems there.
CZroe, why avoid VIA chipsets? Are they that bad? Then I'll have to find i815 based boards I guess...

If you dont plan on overclocking then the Supermicro P3TDDE would be an ideal candidate.
If you do want to overclock then the MSI 9105 Pro266T Master is getting some good feedback on dual CPU forums at the moment 🙂
Im leaning towards the MSI myself for my next upgrade as it appears to be one of the most trouble free Via offerings around at the moment and supports DDR which i have a load of kicking about.
The P3TDDE takes SDR.
