*need advice on compactflash card brands*

Is MR FLASH a bad brand? I want to get a 64mb one for $34 shipped no rebates or anything... is it worth it or are they really bad cards? If they ARE bad does anyone know of a good deal on a 64mb CF card? Thanks! I have a Kingston "high speed" (on the label, I don't know its actual speed) 24mb cf card, would I even notice a speed difference between this and the MR FLASH one? I also can get a 64mb "House Brand" card for $36 shipped that is Type I Spec 1.4 according to the site; are they good? I've heard of both of these brands but I don't know if either of them are good or not. Can anyone point me the right way? Also, are there any sites that review cards? Thanks a lot for anyone's help who can answer some of my questions !

What are you going to be using the CF card for? I've seen some CF card comparisons on digital camera sites, but that was a while ago...I have to run, so I've got no time to look it up, but off the top of my head, check out www.dpreview.com or www.steves-digicams.com/, you might find what you are looking for there. Well, Mr. Flash are supposed to be on the 'slower' end of CF cards when using them through readers (that's what I assume you're going to be using, not some built-in USB interface on the camera, right?).

The Kingston ones are supposed to be up to 40% faster, but, seriously, as I decided when I got my CF card, who cares? It's like 100X faster than a serial connection ANYWAY.

I went with the Mr. Flash because it's like 1/2 the price of the Kingston parts and it's fast. Not as fast, but who cares if there's a 20 second difference when uploading a 64meg card to the harddrive? I don't.

The main speed issue (to me anyway) is the speed at which the camera writes to the flash card, not the speed at which the flash card transfers images to the computer. The short answer is yes, the kingston is faster, but only some of the cameras take advantage of this. Yours does not. A Nikon CoolPix 995, on the other hand, does. After using digital cameras for awhile, I can say that I definitely like faster writing compact flash cards because pretty often, I take 1 picture right after another.

Thanks for the info. I too don't give a crud over 20 seconds on writing to the hard drive, I just care on the camera's write-speed. I'm going to snag the MR FLASH one (refurb from newegg) and see how it goes . If I'm not happy with it (for some weird reason) I can just snag the "House Brand" one instead . Thanks for the info!

What the? I tried ordering from newegg and they demand you to add your shipping address as a reference on your creditcard or go through a lengthy faxing procedure to ship to an address other than your billing. Normally I wouldn't care and would just deliver to my PO Box just like my billing address, but they ship via fedex which doesn't ship there. I decided to go for a House Brand type I CF card 1.4 64mb from supermediastore.com (good bizrate/resellerratings)... does anyone know if this one is good? I figure it's probably the same speed as a MR FLASH for camera writes. Again, I really don't care about the transfer speed to the computer itself .

I just received one of the 128MB Mr. Flash CF cards ($70) from Newegg and it seems to work pretty well with my Canon S100. I just got it a couple of days ago and haven't used it much yet, though. Seems about the same speed as my Sandisk 32MB card.

it's just few bucks more than mrflash from newegg, viking or sandisk from amazon.

Which is a) more capacity than I need and b) twice the price... while I appreciate the suggestions I really just wantd to know about House Brand and MR FLASH .

I would care about speed when I have a 256MB card and want to up it to my comp Then again, this isn't the case now is it?

one thing tho, the NexII mp3 player won't take Mr. Flash.. something to do w/ it's circuitry (this will be supposedly fixed tho in a revision model). And as their site says, something about them don't work w/ HP cameras.

You should care the speed of the camera writing to the card!!!

Spend $10-20 more, get Kingston!!!
Not MrFlash, Sandisk, Viking, etc..

When 3.3mp cameras are $140 I will upgrade ... but no, I'm not going to upgrade it for a few years. 1.3mp may be on the lower end of the megapixel scale, but the picture quality it can take is still great, and looks good on paper as well.
